Who needs to be moved on?

We have certain players who are not making a dent in the 1st team picture. It is imperative to move these lads on not just for the benefit of their own careers (no-one wants to not play football) but also to free up our wage bill and help us get in the recruits we desperately need to add experience to the squad and bolster it in terms of quality.

Who in your opinion should we be informing that they are not part of the plans moving forward?

For me i would be informing Adam King, Cammy Smith and Adrian Sporle that their agent should be trying to find them new clubs as we don't see them as part of our longterm plans as a club.

Adam King is self explanatory. The kid has looked out of his depth from his debut at Stenhousemuir. Barely featured since. Never set the World on fire during his Queens Park loan (was regularly subbed off) and hasn't played even 1 minute of competitive football under Mellon despite his promotion of previously unplayed youngsters. Hell, he's not even a kid (25 in October). His career is passing him by.

Cammy Smith. Seen some Utd fans comment he is like 'a new signing' now he's back. Sorry, but the facts are he hasn't featured regularly under two different Utd Manager's in two different Utd sides playing in the 2nd tier of Scottish Football. In fact both Manager's punted him out on loan only half way through the season despite both struggling for attacking options. Now suddenly elevated to the 1st team squad in the Premiership. But not starting games and when coming off the bench not improving the side despite being 'fresh legs'. Not good enough and being brutally honest i knew that about him 4 years ago. Needs to move on and find his level. Another one who is now 25 so no longer a kid.

Adrian Sporle. Might seem a bit harsh this one as he isn't actually a 'bad' player. But he's not a great one either. Signed as a Left Back. Played there what once (his debut at Tynecastle)? And sporadically featured on the left wing from time to time where he has done 'ok'. But not good enough for that position moving forward and another one who would probably benefit from moving on and finding a club where he is a regular starter. And like the two lads mentioned above he's another who is now 25. So you can't even really argue that he will improve given time.

Anyone disagree with any of them? Or add in any more to the list?

Re: Who needs to be moved on?

Just glad I'm not a 25-y-o at Tannadice.

Re: Who needs to be moved on?

Wouldn’t get rid of Sporle, he’s our only real cover for Robson.  King wouldn’t be missed at all never gonna be good enough.  Smith we need to replace with better , but I’d only let go once the replacement was in, squads thin enough already.

Re: Who needs to be moved on?

Agree wholeheartedly re King, Smith.
Sporle in the absence of better worth a place on bench.

Re: Who needs to be moved on?

Agree with King and Smith.  Agree that Sporle provides a bit of back up that is needed in a squad and is good enough against most teams.  Suspect we'll see a number of youngsters out on loan again.
Other than that there isn't really much fat in the squad.  We are desperately needing something significantly better upfront in addition to Shankland.  I think we can cope with what we have at the back.  You have to put Killie down as a bit of an aberation - we had those last season too.  Thought Mellon was grinding into them better defending but 4-0 definitely flattered them.  When was the last time United had 70% possession in the Prem away from home and lost!
