Re: Utd v Celtic - Saturday 22/8/20 (5.30pm)

Negatives:
Pawlett
Cannae understand why we invited them on second half when first half we did well pressing high.
Sporle - 6/10 predictable cuts inside too much

anyway that aside big Positives:

Team worked their bollocks off for one another.
Benji - 9/10 developing into goalie worth big money.
Connolly & Reynolds - solid
Neilson - 17 wow !
other young laddies - great
Harkes: 10/10 , has come into his own, all over the place, sublime touches.

Re: Utd v Celtic - Saturday 22/8/20 (5.30pm)

Player usage stats update post Sellic -
- McMullan when he came on was the 20th player we've used in the 5 games
- we still have 6 players who have started every game, Benji, the two Marks, Butcher, Harkes, Pawlett
- we still have 3 players who have played every minute, i.e. not substituted - Benji & the two Marks

Who might be our 21st player? Glass maybe? Could we say he needs to do more in training to impress MM?

And lastly, my prediction of 3 players who might move on for money - Robson, Harkes & Siegrist in that order.

Re: Utd v Celtic - Saturday 22/8/20 (5.30pm)

If you consider that the team we had out was the same group of players that we started the Championship with last season (other then Bolton), I think we have to take heart from that performance.  Yes we didn't really look like scoring and as the game went on we were under more and more pressure, but we looked organised, fit, motivated and played some good stuff.

Lewis Neilson BTW - we have a player and a half on our hands here.

Re: Utd v Celtic - Saturday 22/8/20 (5.30pm)

Pleased with the continued attitude of the players. Every player is covering every blade of grass and throwing their bodies in front of everything.

Mickey Mellon has very quickly made us a competitive team who are hard to beat.

The only real downside is our continued problem up top in regards to creating chances and scoring goals (none scored from open play in our three Tannadice games for example).

We miss Shankland but we need a bit more than that. We need a left winger who can get the ball into the penalty box fast and often. Someone who can cross a ball. A physical centre forward who can make the ball stick upfront to give us a different option. And lastly a centre mid who can carry the ball.

If we can fulfill just these three positions then i see no reason why we can't secure one of the five European places available this season.

Finally Lewis Neilson looks a terrific prospect for a 17 year old. His slide tackle in our own box in the 1st half had to be perfectly timed and was.

Shout-out to Siegrest also who has matured into a solid pair of hands. Something i never forseen happening. In truth Mellon has improved every single player it would seem.
