Utd's one and only victory at Hampden versus Celtic.

Just caught the end of that there.
The main thing I remember about the game was the rather unsporting reaction of the Septic fans.
Utd fans had half the old Rangers end, Septic the other. Shared stairwells and hardly any of Strathclydes finest in sight.
Still character building, love a bit of nostalgia

Loved watching that on my telly.
What a machine that Utd side was.

It was a great game no doubt.
The opposite of the Saturday match.
The amount of times from about 78-85 that we failed to beat the bigot brothers was a major let down as there was no doubt we had better players however the occasion the crowds the refereeing it just didn't happen

Aye, the end of the game was no picnic, as the United support left the ground.
And that Tommy Burns could be a bit of a dirty bastard. The referee (it was Smith from Edinburgh wasn't it?) was lenient, to say the least.
What struck me again about the matches from that era was how open the game was, and how direct United were. We had one of the best players in Europe in Davie Narey who could have carried out from the back, but we went for the opposition as quickly as we could.
Contrast that to the fannying about in present football.

I said before that this was how the game should be played and really hope we can get back to this style of football when the game resumes. Hopefully the people in charge realise that people want to be entertained and how you win is as important as winning.
Hope Robbie was watching that tonight.

To be fair to Robbie he has nothing remotely like Bannon or Milne at his disposal or Sturrock......
Actually none of his team would get in the 81 team

Yeah I agree none of today's team are a patch on the 81 team but Robbie is the one who decides how he sets his team up, how he wants the team to play and who he signs / develops from the youths to fit the style he wants.
I'm not having a go at Robbie just think it would be good to get back to attacking football in general.

That’s fair enough but also the current team aren’t up against anything like that Celtic team. Unfortunately the Largs pish has been instilled into so many managers. Works great if you’re  Guardiola with millions but a nightmare if you’re not and try to play that style with mediocre players. Play to your strengths has been binned and everyone is trying to play fancy pish all the time.Â
