*needlessly long post alert*
I dont know about anyone else but I will be glad once this January window 'slams' shut. Not because I have any fear that any of our key players will be sold, but because of the constant media attention on Shankland.
Radio Scotland coverage yesterday mentioned it numerous times and the shitey papers ie the S*n and Daily Ranger are constantly tweeting:
EXCLUSIVE: XYZ team 'track' Shankland. Blah blah scout 'casts eye' over Shankland.
Is that really news?? Of course he is being watched. It would be malpractice of any scouts of teams in the English Championship etc not to watch someone with his scoring record. Post pish like this when an actual bid is made. Not when Scouts attend football matches (its their job).
Anyway...
WHAT ARE OUR REALISTIC CHANCES OF KEEPING SHANKLAND PAST THIS SUMMER?
In my heart, I genuinely believe that at least 6-12 goalscoring months with Utd in what should be the Premiership would do wonders for his reputation and could propel him from lower Championship to very top level Championship down South. Maybe even the EPL.
Unless there are clauses in his contract etc, once the summer comes, I cant see him leaving for anything less than £2m plus add ons surely? I hate talking about players leaving and quite frankly I'd rather he ran down his 3 year contract with us but of course thats very unlikely.
My hope is (and it may be unlikely) is that the boy thinks similarly to me and wants to prove himself in the Scottish Prem before thinking about his next move. We'll never know until it happens and at the moment we just have to enjoy him while he is here. What a fucking player he is.

They was I see it is I think that the Ogren's have done a really good job in repairing the relationship between the club and the fans. After going through the fire sales that ST carried out which has been the main reason in us being in the 2nd tier for 4 years, I think it would be a massive mistake and would undo much of that previously mentioned good work for them to sell Shankland in January and I really don't see that happening unless there is an outrageous offer coming in.
In saying that, we obviously have no idea what is in his contract re release clauses etc so we'll just need to wait and see.
Hopefully he will see out the season with us and helps us win the league, then for me if he goes in the summer then good luck to him.

I’m hoping we would expect a bit more than 2 million.

I mean, £2m for a player you signed 6 months ago for free. But, IMO, I’d be telling them he’s going nowhere until at the least the summer.
I’d want double the above amount too

I would be very very surprised if he went for £2m. Especially in this window.

I would grudgingly suggest that £2m with big add ons would be enough to get him in the summer. Not January though.

Celtic sign Patryk Klimala from Jagiellonia Bialystok. Should at least stop them bothering to table a laughable bid.

[ I don't believe that we would sell not with our record of selling in January and especially when we are so close to the title.
Keep him until May and then he can go with I would think are the best wishes of all United fans.

Would love him to stay but I’m resigned to him leaving, will have my best wishes and thank him for getting us back up!
Our best signing of last decade???

Keep him until the summer, if there's a silly bid, sell him for big money and destination depending, I hope he has a great career and will go with my best wishes.

I’m 100% relaxed about Shankland’s future this window. It doesn’t make sense for the club to sell and I’ve been told that Lawrence and his partner are happy to settle down for a while having moved around a lot recently. He’ll be a United player until the summer at least.

Agree with what you say. Cant see him going this window. Asghar and co will be well aware of the goings on of early 2015 and what then followed. After only a year at the club i dont think they would risk such a departure for sweeties.
Also what you say regarding Shankland and his partner being settled i have heard this also.

Lazy stuff, basing an article on an equally sloppy piece in the Record which also states "Tannadice is heading for a sell-out for the Hibs game"
I'm told Radio Clyde decided last night that if the Tribute Act want Lawrence Shankland, the maximum they will have to pay is £1million. The panel decided this, and that's that.
EDIT: looked up the 'journalist' who cribbed that article for msn, he's been unemployed for 1 year 1 month according to Linkedin. Does freelance stuff.

I felt that Shankland's previous comment that there was nothing to think about until the club spoke to him about it was a bit ominous. Hinted that it was a distinct possibility that we'd look to sell before he asked for a transfer. Of course, if there is a release clause then that conversation would be more likely to happen.
Maybe the release value is £1m...

The harsh reality is that Shankland was signed to get us promoted. Barring the ultimate collapse, he has done it. Anything we get for him in the summer is a bonus. If he has a release clause, so be it. If he doesnt have one, get as much money out of these clubs as we can. Anything below £2m in the summer would be disappointing though.
In my heart I can see him wearing the number 9 shirt for us in August. Banging in goals in the prem. Dont care what my head says.

Neilson is actually quoted there Pat as regards Shankland potentially leaving this month.
That should be a concern.

Pinch of salt lads. I have read those quotes in another article (cant find it off the top of my head) but I would say the quote has just been manipulated. He did say that. But from what I understood, he meant in general. Not January.

Serious question. Do you think with the gap we have at the top and the current squad, we'd scrape over the line if Shankland were sold? More importantly, do you think United management might be thinking along those lines? If right offer is tabled.
No way in hell id sell him like. A little concerned we might.
I think the article you mean is here
Paywall might block you but I managed to read it earlier

We shouldn't be talking about him leaving full-stop.
He's a Dundee United player.
Also noticed yesterday Lee McCulloch was quoted as saying it 'wouldn't surprise him' if Rangers and Celtic wanted to sign him.
We shouldn't be talking about this at all.
All focus should be on the rest of the season as we have achieved nothing yet.

Gerrard quoted saying that he only expects players to leave The Rangers with no-one coming in.

We'll not get away from chat about him leaving until the window shuts unfortunately.
Neilson was Live on Radio Scotland tonight with James McPake (was also streamed live and very much worth a watch if you can find it) - and his words were ones that we've heard/read before:
He will not be leaving in January unless a stupid/crazy bid comes in which outweighs the cost of promotion which Neilson doesnt expect to happen.
Impossible to predict what a 'crazy/stupid' bid is. But it fills me with confidence he will not be sold.
