Glad someone else agrees.
If Cammy Smith does indeed depart to Partick this coming week (and it looks likely given his omission from our bench yesterday) then that is us 3 forwards down in a week (Nicky Clark, Cammy Smith and Logan Chalmers).
Yes, we have Osman Sow back, but i will be amazed if Neilson gives him any real game time, never mind starts. I also highly doubt he will stay injury free. His contract is up in the Summer and quite frankly i don't know what he's still doing at Tannadice.
Getting Safranko in on loan or signing Allan Forrest in now would be good business.

Forrest or Pav would be fantastic January signings.
Edit:
Forrest AND Pav would also be fantastic January signings. This is an unlikely scenario though.

We need another striker as there's no way we can count on Sow if Shankland gets injured/suspended.
Big Pav would be ideal as he can easily play a few roles just like Nicky Clark.

For now, let's just win the league asap and we can build for next season, but the squad strength is a concern for me , there's a few on long deals.
SIEGRIST
L.SMITH
WATSON
REYNOLDS
CONNOLLY
ROBSON
SPORLE
FREEMAN
BUTCHER
POWERS
HARKES
KING
GLASS
McMULLAN
PAWLETT
STANTON
SHANKLAND
C. SMITH
APPERE
SOW
CLARK
DENIZ
There's a few who haven't cut it in the top league, have never played there, or age/pace/ability could hinder them.
Tangerine - Good enough
Blue - Untested/Risk
Red - Thanks, but cheerio
Expect that a few in red might cause a stir, but we're not playing Painters, Posties Butchers and Candlestick makers next season.
I’d say that’s pretty harsh on Watson and Clark.
Watson at centre half is a lot better than I ever expected he would be. Can’t think of many major mistakes he’s made playing there. He’s been for me, our best defender over the past couple of months and if we go into next season with him, Reynolds, Connolly and bring in somebody with better distribution, I’ll be pretty content about our centre half options.
Clark deserves the chance to show that he can step up to Premiership football, he’s been a consistent goalscorer at this level for years now, and is a much cleverer and all round better footballer than I think people realise. I think we’re gonna miss his link up play with Shankland over the next few months.

On hearing that we have signed Alan Forrest on a pre contract (done deal apparently) then would it not make sense to bring him in now and give Ayr Cammy Smith and Sam Wardrop on a free?

tully's got the fun in for Forrest...

I heard this on Saturday as well.

Well if Forrest fancies another season in the championship then Dens is the place to be.

I really hope we sign another forward this week. Preferably one who has pace.
If Shankland gets injured i really feel we will struggle for goals.
The bench is too weak also. Having to rely on young Chris Mochrie to come on and try and get us a goal. As great a prospect as he is, he is still a 16 year old schoolboy and it is unfair to be asking that of him at that age.

100% yes I think.
Although I feel that Sow might actually come In handy, he is not the answer as a partner and/or replacement for Shankland if need be.
Aperre could probably do a job as striker but would say it'd be unfair to lump that pressure on him this early.
The problem is, as we know, good forwards are hard to come by...especially in January so if anything I think we might only be able to look at a loan maybe as I doubt we would spend money on a backup player.
Tin hat on... Kenny Miller might be up for a job till the summer.

I think it’s more of a winger that we need, mcmullan has looked dreadful last few games looks totally disinterested
I agree though we are light up top, maybe a loan signing till end of season
As for Kenny Miller, not a fucking chance

Ideally we could do with both.
Agree about McMullan.
Some width wouldn't go amiss
Even the Fun appear to have got a half decent* loan in that department.
*Until Mc🐍 fucks him up

Agree about McMullan.
Awe come on man, you can't seriously fault effort in McMullan, skill and talent yes but not effort.
3 men on him today, and he was asking for the ball constantly when he came on.

Again, my opinion, but it seems unfair to slate McMullan. He's another of those players that folk seem to think is a winger due to his height, and unfortunately due to our lack in the wide areas he's regarded as a winger by many, and used as one often by the head coach.
He's better through the middle, and was only a fine save from Rodgers away from not being criticised tonight.

He has played on the wing for Utd in about 90% of his appearances for us (sometimes very well btw).
If he's not a winger he's not doing a very good job of convincing people otherwise as he has played under 3 different Managers now, all of whom have played him left or normally right wing.

Mostly because these three managers have failed to sign wingers.
So in answer to the query, we need to sign a winger.

We do need a winger, yes. One less inconsistent than McMullan.
Say Shankland gets injured, who we playing up front? We need a forward too.

McMullan is fine at championship level but there isn’t a chance he will be good enough for the top flight. We need 2/3 wingers between now and the start of next season.

Is Frear not supposed to be a winger? What about Forrest from Ayr? Was there not a rumour that we were after him?

Frear couldn’t get a game for Motherwell last season, he’s not going to be good enough for us next season.
