People often say Hip Hop or Rap is dead. But I disagree.
There are still good artists out there. Yes, the genre has moved in a different direction. But that is not necessarily a bad thing.
3 recent good one's (XXXtentacion, Lil Peep and Juice Wrld).
All died within about 18 months of each other. All mixed Hip Hop/Rap with emotional lyrics and in the case of X and Lil Peep, acoustic guitar.
Actually listen to the tracks. Listen to the lyrics. There is a lot there. Deep stuff for young men. An underlying sadness, that ultimately pointed towards tragedy.
