I have allowed 48 hours to pass and have read the negative comments on what was an admittedly poor result on Tuesday night. It is important that the support understand that the players and staff know that this was unacceptable....
Likewise, I believe it is important that the support understand the level of work that is put in by staff and players on a daily basis and know that they know how results like Tuesday night can affect the support......
We are working to create a ‘United’ culture throughout this club. For it to be successful, we want this to extend to the support, who are the lifeblood of this club. While players and staff are not immune to criticism, I believe much of this can be given in a transparent way ....
We had planned to hold a Q&A session - open to all supporters - early in the season with myself, the Head Coach, two Assistant Head Coaches, the team captain. The main aim of this event is to foster the growth of transparency and belief amongst the fans in the team that we have.
In the wake of the criticism directed at the team following Tuesday night’s defeat, I believe this is all the more important. As supporters, we love the passion and emotion that you show. However, we need that passion behind the team - not against it.
For this reason, we will be announcing a date for our Q&A imminently, and I truly hope that the support take this opportunity to listen to their club, and give us the opportunity to listen to you.
During Mark J. Ogren’s tenure, we have shown the desire to listen to the support, and make positive changes to the club that have been suggested by the people who know Dundee United FC best.
This season, we are all looking for the same result. With a shared vision and understanding of what we are trying to do, we believe we can unite to ensure all of our aims for this season are achieved.
On a personal level I don’t buy into that this is “the same as before” as the marked changes in the club have increased tenfold and whilst I know this won’t appease everyone we will strive to make sure you have a club you can be proud of.

You can change all the fixtures and fittings you want but it's the team on the park that needs sorted NOW!

As long as the staff realise that performances / results like that are unacceptable, and they up their game next chance they are given...
Let’s see though eh.

Its a mistake to listen solely to social media as its full of negativity, Can give a false impression of how the fans feel.
If you listened to SM over the last few days you would think the support want Robbie sacked

I think TA coming out and saying something is the correct thing to do after all he has been vocal on twitter.

What does he do to understand how fans are feeling then?
Some fans do want him sacked. Some fans dont and social media/forums are the quickest route to understand what a % of us are feeling.
I welcome it and hope we see action on the back of it.

I appreciate the ‘statement’ and I am, like everyone else, just desperate to see the direct attacking football that will get us out the league.

Really like ashgar and actually think it’s brilliant to have someone who is part of the club on twitter, the boy from Motherwell and Peterborough are excellent!
Still believe there will be 3/4 players still to come in and boys to come back from injuries, I’ve absolutely no doubt we’ll get out this league

Keep it going Tony communication with the fanbase or lack of it has been one the major issues in the recent past.
As others have said though if we are winning you will have less need to explain

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. I prefer this to the wall of silence from the previous regime.

I think he's trying to be a wee bit too cute, could backfire

There is a large swathe of our fan base that are very skeptical to what reasons Tony Ashgar has for being involved in a club like he is. I’m sure he’s aware of this and is trying to interact with the fans to win them/us over.
I for one was happy to give him a chance and on the whole it seems fairly positive. One bad result shouldn’t undo a lot of positive work of the field and behind the scenes, the blame for the fans level of despondency lies at the door of the management team imo.

Interesting that Tony has released this, any level of communication is welcomed.
But there would have been no requirement if we'd simply done better on the park, and I'm unsure if folk will try to read more into the message than intended.
I've not managed to any matches this season, might get the the ICT game, but those who have attended and who give views which I trust aren't encouraged by the set-up of the team for reasons which are almost always the same (and almost always the same as last season).

And the season before that under Ray as well: boring, slow paced, laboured, negative, fear football that involves trying to go a goal up then holding what we have and capitualting.

Good on him for the statement that's what we want from the club. We're all disappointed after Tuesday, at least they know how sections of the support feels. You just want to know the players and staff feel the same way. Which going by his statement does look like it.
We all want the same thing in the end
Promotion and a successful Dundee United.

Its all fine and well him saying it and making it sound as though the players and staff feel the same way after Tuesday but in reality do they?
Time will tell.
Poor Tony must be spewing into his Crunchy Nuts this morning. His bold statement elicited what can at best be described as a mixed response. Brave effort Mr Asghar but sometimes ye just cannae win.
In days gone by Tuesday's defeat would have resulted in no more than a lot of 'that was shite' comments around the pubs. Nowadays - OMG!!
Here's a thought & one can dream. If on going 2-0 down the fans had started singing rather than booing might we have had a different outcome? There was little or no support. The players are only human.
And those bemoaning the 'square balls across the back/slow build-up pish' we played exactly the same way on Friday. Did anybody notice?
