Re: Most Emotional Track Ever - Round 2/Game 2

Thanks for the numbers once again Mr Chanter.

The opening match of Round 2 witnessed an easy victory for the Neil Young track "Philadelphia". It will now progress through to the Quarter Final's as a result of said victory. The defeated track on this occasion was 'Forbidden Colours' by David Sylvian & Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Round 2/Game 2 -

The Walker Brothers - Make It Easy On Yourself

Released - August 1965
Written By - Burt Bacharach and Hal David
Songs Background - The song was first released in 1962 by singer Jerry Butler who had a Top 20 hit with it after his record companies top A+R man had heard the Burt Bacharach demo sang by Dionne Warwick (who's record company later declined the track). The song was more famously recorded by The Walker Brothers who took it to No. 1 in America just 3 years later.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

Released - 20th January 1970
Written By - Paul Simon
Songs Background - "Bridge over Troubled Water" was composed by Paul Simon very quickly, so much so that he asked himself, "Where did that come from? It doesn't seem like me."

The title lyric was inspired by Claude Jeter's line "I'll be your bridge over deep water if you trust in me," which Jeter sang with his group, the Swan Silvertones, in the 1958 song "Mary Don't You Weep".

Simon later acknowledged his debt to Claude Jeter in person, and handed Jeter a cheque.

Simon wrote the song initially on guitar but transposed it to the piano to better reflect the Gospel influence and also, to suit Garfunkel's voice.

Voting Closes Later Today (Monday 15th July) AT 10PM

Tough decision. Will go for.
The Walker Brothers - Make It Easy On Yourself
The melodies of Burt Bacharach and voice of Scott Walker are a marriage made in heaven.
