Craig Conway

I’m led to believe he’s coming home.

Re: Craig Conway

Will he take a game against Montrose then do fuck all thereafter though? That's the burning issue.

Too much commotion

Re: Craig Conway

34 year old now. Pretty old for a winger is it not?

Loved him as a player and he's went on to have a solid career in English football, but i've grown wary of bringing back Utd heroes. It never seems to work.

Billy Dodds, Craig Brewster, Willo Flood, David Goodwillie, Morgaro Gomis, Paul Dixon etc etc. It never seems to work out for some reason.

Re: Craig Conway

Sir Craig is well worth a 1 year deal in my opinion. May not start every week but massively experienced from his time down south and was still getting into the Blackburn team semi-regulalry last season (around 25 apps last season) in the Championship. Take him in a heartbeat.

Re: Craig Conway

Tell ya one thing though.

If Conway did re-sign and helped us win the Championship title next season ahead of the Dee's, he'd surely be acknowledged as one of our all-time greats, if you add that honour on top of his SCF2010 heroics.

Re: Craig Conway

CC has done OK to good in so called better leagues on big wages but I'm no sure he is a definate starter compaired to what I hope we recruit. Havn't seen much of him playing at all since he left us & don't think we should rule out old players coming back after what's happened in that respect.

I have the biggest hope for us recruiting well, based on hope mair than anything and the new regime having maybe mair investment, hopefully better spent in more clever ways.

I’m with you on this one Tek, he was a hero .......in 2010!

That’s a long time ago.

We should be looking at youth not more ex players past their use by date who never live up to previous glories.

Agreed, however his quality may produce a winning goal against a team that park the bus against us.

Re: Craig Conway

One angle on Craig Conway becoming an all time great if he gets us promoted - in my opinion he is arguably worthy of this already. The guy was man of the match and scored two goals when we won the scottish cup final, no other player in our history has done this.

Bannon, Milne, Gallagher were all better footballers and achieved great things for our club. However, I grew  up watching us lose cup finals almost every year, to see Conway scoring those two goals and celebrating with 28000 fans was amazing.

Re: Craig Conway

Conway is 34 Dobbie is 36. Too much gets made of a players age.  Personally i would be far happier to see the proven quality of  an ex international winger at Tannadice rather than a socks over the knees lightweight like Mcdade.

Re: Craig Conway

Most times in the last five or so years I've seen Craig Conway on the telly, he hasn't been playing as a recognised wide man, although that was nominally his position. He's looked a strong player with guile playing inside more, with his full back overlapping.

I'd be happy to see him back.

Totally agree with this and the Dobbie comparison point. Conway would be a great signing. Good delivery and a talented footballer who has played a lot of football in a really competitive league. Would add a lot to our team

Re: Craig Conway

Would he come out of sentimentality?
Would he move his family?
I can't see us paying any more than £2.5k/week.
Can we get someone younger/better for that price?
As stated elsewhere getting our summer signings right has never been more crucial.
We need to get every incomer 100% right.

I don't know CC but I'd bet he's a great lad and he could be a big positive off the field too, bags of experience, great banter, model pro & all that.

That's a fair point (about Dobbie).

Was just worried he'd lost some of his pace due to age (which is one attribute we really lack as a team).

But if he's grew into a more physically strong player who can still put in a great delivery then happy to have him for a season.

I'd have more faith in him helping our full backs than the likes of Fraser aird.

As would i.

But it's going forward i really want to see someone shine in the left midfield role.

It's been a problem area of the park for us now for far too long.

Re: Craig Conway

I’d rather Craig Conway operate our left flank than Jamie Robson.

Re: Craig Conway

Thinking about a potential Conway signing: is he a replacement for Pawlett?

Strange as that may sound, PP rarely manages 90 minutes, and it's also possible he's been signed with a difficult injury. So 'replacement' in the sense of one replacing the other in some games, or perhaps even a direct replacement.

And before anybody criticises the post for writing PP off, that's not what I'm doing here.

Re: Craig Conway

Would love to see CCFFS back at United. Doubtful that will happen though.

Also have to say happy for Jamie Robson to remain here as noticed a big improvement in him in several ways. Think he will be a player that lad, hopefully with us. Noticed Booth has also been getting a bit of stick elsewhere. Personally I am happy enough with both being in our squad for next season.

Both Robson and Booth are average championship players at best imo. Robson has more potential to improve whereas Booth has probably reached his potential. Both are maybe competent at best for a tilt at the championship title but nowhere near good enough for a premiership team.
