Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Well saturday is nearly upon us and qe are st home to Morton in what really can be a season defining game depending on our and other results.
The bullshit negative tactic needs to stop now and we need to buck up our ideas and get 3 points this weekend or see our season once again fall away.

Id go a 442 with Safranko and Clark up top

The defence and midfield i think may change depending on comings and goings by tommorrow evening.

Couldn't have put it better myself Mr Bowers. Anything less than 3 points is abject failure.
And agree 're 442 In this division it's a no brainer to play Clark and Safranko together imo.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

I'll take any sort of win from this game: it'd be great to blow Morton away, but over the last three years I can't really remember many (any?) games where we have.

In hospo for this, so maybe someone could give a report about the match for me.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

My only concern is that we literally play like a team that's never met each other before. Please just scrape any kind of win tomorrow to get the momentum swinging our way.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Going by the welcoming videos we have been too busy signing players and forgot to turn on the under soil heating.

Get it cranked up full blast.

Nae idea of starting 11 but I want to see 442

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

After the buzz of yesterday it'd be just our luck that the Winter really hits hard now and we can't get a game.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Good news is that first team trained on the pitch today so shouldn't be a problem for tomorrow providing its left on through the night.

It will be interesting to see our starting eleven, formation and bench tomorrow.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Great first half, thought we lost a lot of momentum with the substitutions, but night and day from the Ayr game and something to raise a glass or two to tonight.

O/T    Got 9 out of 10 goals in both halves worth £200 if it came in. the last one's the East Fife game that's postponed, anybody any idea what happens? It's still an open bet with sky bet.

I don't know a lot, but I know what I like!

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Good 1st half.

2nd half was brutal.

Main positive for me was Butcher and Harkes who gave us good energy.

They've voided the East Fife match and payed out £120 rather than the £207, but happy wi' that, no bad for a £1 bet.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Was very surprised how good harkes was, wasn’t expecting that at all tbh! So clever, great range of passing, and didn’t shy from a tackle, him and butcher could be a formidable partnership! Butcher is everything I remembered him and seems to have added to his game going forward!

Reynolds and connelly were solid af and most important thing is, they were telling players if they were doing wrong esp Connelly

Pawlett was different gravy tbh, what a massive massive upgrade, so direct, composed! Keep it up and we’ve got best player in league

Now on to fyvie, I’m gutted for him tbh, his confidence his absolutely shot, we all know how good is, he’s no fit and it isn’t doing him any favours being involved atm, needs time off imo! Really feel for him, keep the head up Fraser you’ll be back

Agree with that. Harkes showed some exccellent passing, MOM for me.
All the new signings looked significant upgrades on what went before.
3 away games coming up so not yet time to get the hopes up yet.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Agree with everything you say SM. Harkes was terrific, everything Stanton should be. Has to be Butcher and Harkes in the middle for the foreseeable.

They two centre halves are gonna be massive for us, two real leaders at the back who look like they love the art of defending, Connolly bawling and shouting right throughout the game was bra to see.

Looks like we have a bit of quality in the wide areas now, and most importantly, options.

Safranko was his usual industrious self and had some good touches, linking up with his teammates, and I thought Clark deserves a mention for the shift he put in today.

Not gonna be too hard on Fyvie, he made a bad mistake that could have cost us, but it’s clear to see he’s having issues with his fitness and confidence. We rushed him back in far too quickly, and it’s had a major effect on his performances since then. We need to take him out and build him back up, thankfully we have other options now that will allow us to do that. What he doesn’t need is folk getting on his back and slating fuck out of him, not gonna do anyone any good. A fully fit and confident Fraser Fyvie is as good as anything outside of the top 6 in the country, and it’s in our best interests to get him back to that level.

One more thing I would say is, I think we have the bones of a very decent team there, whether we go up or not. Don’t think we’re gonna need a whole new squad in the summer like we’ve seen in recent seasons.

Sounds like you were worrying too much Kdy. From what folk are saying the first 45 was really excellent.
Its nice to go 2 up and be defending a game instead of being one down and chasing. Looks like we have the beginnings here of something very good. A shame our rivals both won but it's all about us now going out and taking 3 points every start.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Well deserved win and 3 points today, esp. the first half. On of the best halfs we've seen in a lang time. Far more aggression than in a while. Game took aff right away did it no. Only 2 minutes in and Harkes got us a corner. Eh coonted 5 corners in 12 minutes . When was the last time we saw that.

1st goal. Corner in 8 minutes was cleared to the left of the box, when Butcher collected the ba, then there was a nice 1 2 we Pawlett, then Butcher ran toward the goal and belted it, and it was clipped in by Safranko.

2nd goal. On the half oor. A great thru ball by Clark to Pawlett led to a 1 on 1 we the Morton keeper, and Pawlett just kinda slid the ba past into the back.

Morton had the ba inta the back of oor net around the 40 minutes, but Mortons Dallas booted it in aboot 3 foot out, but he was affside. The ba was rollin in anyweh, so If he'd left it instead oe addressing the ball it would have been a goal. Thank phuck for that then.

Were it no for 3 great saves by the Morton keeper we woulda been 5-0 up at the break.

2nd half. Thought it was gonna similar to the 1st half, when we had 3 corners in the 1st 3 minutes oe tha half, but then we seemed to be laying aff a bit, and Morton came into the game, no doubt.

Became more apparent when Butcher went aff did it no. Fyvie had 2 bad passes, one a back-pass that nearly cost us, and the 2nd of which in the box, went to Kiltie wha crossed the ba, and it was tapped in. FFS.

Morton upped their gehm efter this and they put more pressure on us. Thankfully they never really threatened Siegrist.

We almost certainly should have had our 3rd when Harkes ran forward doon the middle (think it was  4 on 2). He shoulda played right to Sow, but chose to pass left to Nesbitt who was the only one to be marked and was tackled, and the chance was gone.

Over the moon with the 1st half, but no we the 2nd. Musta been atleast a dozen attempts we 6 or 7 on target.
MOTM for me Pawlett, with Harkes close 2nd.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Great performance today. Neilson spot on in interview where he said Seaman(2nd), Reynolds, Pawlett, Harkes, Butcher and Clark all starting their first games in a long time so 2nd half was always going to be a bit of a slog along with the fact it was a whole new team. Pawlett was next level imo and showed signs that he could be an absolute game changer in this league. With Ayr and RC not winning at HT I was hoping for a Carlsberg Saturday but they showed a bit of grit to get good away wins. Good chance next week to progress in the cup then two winnable away games and QOTS and Falkirk before our biggest week of the season imo (ICT Home Tues/Ross Co Home Sat). If we are sitting here in a months time having won all 4 league games in a row this place is going to be extremely excitable.

Yeah, if we had gone in at half time 4 or 5 goals up Morton couldn't have complained. We were that good the first half.

This for me exactly. Concerned about Fraser Fyvie,  still think he has fitness issues, hope he gets back to his best.

Overall feeling very positive this morning after all the keech we have had to endure for years. This really could be the start of something very good. Here’s hoping.

Re: Dundee utd v morton 2/2/19

Fyvie needs time out.

Great report Billy Hainey!

To be fair to Harkes, in that late chance I felt Nesbitt could have made more space for himself, instead of making the pass more difficult.
