I asked this before on Twitter and was pretty much ridiculed. But by fuck it is getting harder and harder to ignore this guy now, surely?
Yes, he's 36 years old, granted. But holy fuck 37 goals scored in January??
5 hat-tricks scored this season already. This in a fairly run-of the mill Sccottish Championship side.
The guy is having an 'Indian Summer' and is clearly settled in Dumfries, but is a talented player that has somehow fallen through our (Scotland's) net previously (despite him being a cult hero at Swansea).
Worth a try in a friendly at least? I guarantee the cap (and any further cap) would mean more to him than any other player selected. He fucking deserves it btw.
I'd throw him in against some of the lower ranked teams, especially at home.
I remember thinking Brewster and Crawford should have been playing for Scotland when they had a great partnership at Dunfermline. Unfortunately, international managers can't see past picking players who are playing for better performing teams in the higher leagues.

a different angle - what is the influence going to be on the rest of the squad? If Dobbie at 36 comes in and busts a gut at every training session, will that influence the youngsters?
Brewster & Crawford - if they had been top professionals (and based on his time at united I never thought Crawford was), would it have influenced Riordan, O'Connor and many others to be better professionals long term?

26 of his goals have been at home. I suggest scotland get a plastic pitch at hampden and we'll be laughing all the way to the euros 🤣
Oh and 5 away goals on plastic tae. So 31 of the 37 have been on artificial.

I like your enthusiasm. D'you honestly think the average young popstar player will watch a 36 year old trying like fuck and take that n board? Not a chance. They'd probably take the piss. I'd leave him where he is and let him enjoy what he's doing now. If he was playing top level at a big club maybe the whole respect thing would work but the wee shites of today would just give him shit.

Interesting stat.
But i would still like to see him get a chance in a friendly.
We are not blessed in this country with natural goal scorers or out and out No.9's.

It’s a depressing thought that Scotland should even consider calling up a 36yr old for the 1st time. There should be plenty young players fighting for that opportunity, unfortunately there aren’t, so while depressing it’s not completely ridiculous.

Mind Roger Milla?
One of the best forwards at Italia '90.
He was 38.
Dobbie has looked after himself so the age thing doesn't bother me personally.

With respect he's scoring goals at championship level. No way is he or should he ever be considered international class.

He'd score in the Scottish Premiership frequently too.
As he showed on Tuesday night.

The sentimental part of me says yes, then I wake up and say no way. Its surely too much to step up to international level from there. All credit to him though.

I’m not saying you can’t be older and good, just that an international manager would ideally be looking for folk with 10 year international carreers ahead of them.
It’s scotland, beggars, choosers etc.

Our manager looks like he's looking for folk who'll buy him a drink.
Seriously, I don't think McLeish has his eyes 10 years ahead of him. Regarding Dobbie, he's very good at our level, which is very poor. He'd be no worse than some who have had caps in recent times, but isn't the answer to our failures.

Would be quite funny if he got called up and scored like fuck though.

Decent goal today against Scotland's 2nd best team.
P.s. it was on grass too.

That was a quality strike. Really sweet connection.
QOS is a team built around him. That couldn't happen at international level. He is a great player and probably should have played at a higher level than he did, but he didn't and international spots should be beyond him. Better trying to build a team around the lad Burke at Celtic/W Brom. He's got ridiculous pace for a Scottish player and it's all about pace at international level.

I'm sure some Sevco players were called up when in the Championship, so I don't see why the melted pussed, ginger arsehole couldn't give Dobbie a game v a pub team.
