Seeing his reaction when we won the cup v Ross County in 2010 stayes with me maybe forever.

Arabs of a certain age might get that. Hard for the new generation to feel the same.

Edit to say:- This picture sums up something about that match and how they saw us.

2nd time round they couldn't stop us, block us or knock us out.

Re: OLD/RARE UNITED PICTURES

I think this is us before playing Spurs in the Kirin Cup Final in Japan in 1979.

Some impressive results on the way beating Fiorentina 4-2 on pens after a 2-2 draw in the semis, drawing with Argentina's San Lorenzo 2-2, beating Burma  4-0 and a Japan X1 2-0.

Can't find much. Maybe Japan Arab might have a better chance as me searching using a japanese to english translator is driving me mental.

Re: OLD/RARE UNITED PICTURES

Look how far over the pitch is in that pic Arabnophobia posted, if that is indeed the touchline I have highlighted there?  I guess the pitch was moved quite a bit when the north terracing was built?

Re: OLD/RARE UNITED PICTURES

Think most or all of the 6 snowy pics were before we played Albion Rovers in January 1963. Beat them 3-0 infront of 12000.

That probably is about where it is today, there is no enclosure in front of the Jerry Kerr so it looks further away than normal. The touchline was moved earlier to accommodate the building of the Jerry Kerr, if you look at the Shed, that was more inline with the touchline of old.

Re: OLD/RARE UNITED PICTURES

In our only ever match vs Manchester City we came back from a Barrie Betts 20th minute pen to beat them 2-1 with goals from Wattie Carlyle and Dennis Gillespie on Saturday 17th Feb 1962 infront of 7000 at Tannadice.

According to the stats one of the worst winters for cancellations in Scottish football with United only playing 3 times between 22 December and 2nd March. I can remember we were snowed in at least once with a giant snow drift right over our back door and my old man digging it clear. Brilliant stuff as a wee laddie. The Albion Rovers match was the one which coined the nickname Arabs due to tons of sand being spread to make the pitch playable. A journalist is quoted as saying that United took to the surface like Arabs taking to a desert (or words to that effect) and the nickname stuck.

What a great night that was, the night that English football really found out about United. The Old Trafford playing surface was a disgrace for a club of that stature. That pic I think is Bannon Duxbury and Bailey the keeper.
The United support was immense that night

Of all the fantastic photos on this thread I keep coming back to this picture. It humbles me to see exactly where we came from. It sums up for me the reason I started supporting United, the underdogs who had no ground of their own, opposed in their development by the Jute baron owners of Dundee FC at every turn, moved into Tannadice and the rest became history.
