Sad news today that a man most of us will remember fondly from our childhood's (Geoffrey Hayes of 'Rainbow' fame) has passed away.
Why is this in the Dundee United Sub-Forum, i hear you ask?
Well for those of you who didn't already know, Geoffrey Hayes (though an Englishman) was actually a Dundee United fan after having lived in Dundee in the 1960's.
Indeed it was Mr Hayes who persuaded the shows producers to change the shows famous character 'Zippy' from blue to tangerine to match the colours of United and not those of our city rivals.

A very good friend of mine, who was high up in Channel 4 TV, told me this many years ago, and I didn't believe him, as I thought he was taking the p1ss, or pandering to my love of United.
I never recounted his story, or mentioned it on here, for thought of ridicule, but I'm gonna have to offer him a humble apology in front of a number of others when I see him tomorrow.
On 2nd thoughts, gonna phone him the night, rather than discuss the colour of Zippy's fleece in a Cafe the moarn.
