There's a definite preference for bad news amongst Arabs these days. I first posted about ST selling up the other day and it got 16 replies over a couple of days. Bowers posted when Spence said it had fallen through and folk couldn't wait to jump on it! 46 replies and counting!

Utd fans preference for bad news.. bullshit

Proper news like the deal fallen through thread like i posted is always going to get more posts on it than a link to another forum with some clown saying the deal has been agreed  when we have heard stuff so many times.

Cheers- I lack local insight.

Thus Jim Spence may have released the news to have an intended impact, with John Gibson's knowledge?

I think it will be telling if, one way or another, the club releases an official statement this week about any takeover.
Spence's tweet has unsettled the support, as has the DUSF statement.

I'm not demanding details, but the club itself has insinuated an imminent takeover for a long number of months, and I feel it owes the fans more honesty.

Your post was bullshit tho, proven.

Bowers was accurate.

And the last few years has shown me the majority of rumours that are leaked from Tannadice and repeated and grown by easily led folk like you end up being bullshit.  So is there something going on in the background, I severely doubt it.

Hang on a minute - it wasn't my post. I just brought it to the attention of this board. And bowers didn't break any news either, he just did similar with Spence's tweet.

I never said anything is or isn't happening, hence the question mark in the post title. Also, I'm not easily led, maybe just open-minded enough to think that ST will not be at Tannadice forever. Your continued calling
"bullshit" implies there will never be any change, ever.

Nobody is delighted at this or the state we’re in.  Some of us just wish folk would stop believing the annual bullshit, so the fans could actually start trying to do something about it.  1 protest in all this time and half the support booed it.  No wonder they take us all for mugs.

A half arsed protest during the most important game of that season - where can I buy a yellow scarf - sign me up!

Ok 1 half-arsed protest in all this time.  The point is there should have been protests at every game for years now regardless of how important that game was perceived to be.  The future existence of the club is more important and it’s still under severe threat.

See this season when the money runs out, as it will, what are we getting a loan on this time?

Re: Share deal dead

Im probably in the minority here, i usually am.  However i dont really care who owns the club. Ever since double admin over the road some fans have become obssesed about ownership.
My purchase of a season ticket is 0% influenced by who the owner is or any rumours around it.

I'm kinda towing your line Beharder, but I do admit to not liking Thompson, and what he's done to our Club, and would be glad to see him do the walk.

Unfortunately the way the club is run off the park has a direct result to what happens on the park.

The reason we’re struggling down a league is because of the poor financial, recruitment and selling decisions made by those in charge.

That’s why folk care who owns the club, because we care about success on the park.

If the club was being run properly, no one would be talking about shares or the boardroom.

We have a job to do too.
It cuts both ways.
The way the club is supported from the terracing has a major effect on what happens on the park.
No, I'm not happy about the running of the club recently but my reaction is to support more in the belief that things will get better.

Supporting the club isn’t a job, do you get paid?

What gives you any belief things will get better with the current set up?

And no ones saying it’s easy, every business has its challenges, but there’s one basic rule we continually break - we spend more than we earn - and that is killing us.

Re: Share deal dead

C'mon guys, there's not point in in-fighting.  We're never going to agree on everything so why start fighting about it when it won't achieve anything?

The way I see it is if you want to back the club to try and get out of the Championship then crack on.

If you want to try to force change by keeping your money in your pocket the crack on.

Infighting isn't going to achieve anything.

Oooooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaah!!

Yup I obviously take an interest and want what's best etc but I'm not obsessing. Football was so much fun for me before all the behind the scenes stuff made it miserable. I'm back to just really caring about the team

Re: Share deal dead

Copy n pasted 'statement'.
_________________________________________________________Gibson’s statement read: “I was approached by Stephen Thompson almost two weeks ago and agreed to buy his majority shareholding in Dundee United.“I expected to announce the purchase on Saturday 7th July but his (Thompson’s) lawyers amended the agreement,” he claimed.“The funds to buy his shares were lodged in a lawyers’ client account last week.“The deal was due to be signed on Monday 9th July but was then delayed at his end until the following day, Tuesday.

“On that day I received an e-mail again amending the offer, with two clauses which were simply unacceptable, but which, due to non-disclosure agreements, I cannot reveal.

I wanted complete privacy until the deal was signed and sealed but had folk calling me on Sunday 8th July to say they knew about the deal, and journalists calling on the Monday to enquire about it.“Given that the press, as they were absolutely entitled to do, were going to run the story, I reluctantly made a brief statement to them.

“As I am a member of the Dundee United Supporters Foundation, I felt I had to inform them of my intention to buy the shares, and had done so in strictest confidence on the 2nd July.

“The money offered and lodged with the solicitors was a substantial six-figure sum.“The impasse at Tannadice has to be broken and I thought this was the opportunity to do so.However, I had no option but to withdraw my offer for the shares due to these eleventh hour changes, from Stephen Thompson, to the original offer. The new conditions were bizarre, and impossible to achieve.

“This deal would have allowed fan participation in the club and also recreated what United used to be: a true community club.“I now intend to keep my powder dry and will continue to encourage fans to join and support the DUSF.

“As Stephen Thompson has offered to sell the shares, it seems to me that there now appears to be little prospect of any ‘American deal’, although I would be delighted to be proved wrong.“Chairman Mike Martin needs to come clean with the fans on this situation as soon as possible.

I am seriously worried as to how United are going to fill the financial black hole, since there are no assets left to sell or mortgage, and apart from some deal being done with a Ryan Gauld sale and any sell-on fee from that, there is little prospect of fresh funds coming in. Added to the extremely poor season ticket sales (and I have bought six, for myself and my family) the club could find itself short of a seven-figure sum this season.

“These are very worrying times for Dundee United fans. On reflection Stephen Thompson may have been playing me along, using my offer to wave in front of the other directors, but only time will tell.”

Re: Share deal dead

Sick of all this fucking pish.

As usual we are left with the 'non-disclosure' line leaving us none the wiser.

There will be those who say 'fans can't expect to know every detail in and about the club' and they are entitled to that opinion.

But see when we have to see our club continually rung through the wringer with decisions like -

- giving McNamara 'sell on fee' commissions on future player transfers or
- sacking Stevie Campbell a man who had helped bring through a Golden generation of kids. Or
- watching our majority shareholder actively trying to buy a club on the other side of the World whilst 'Rome burns'

- to the most recent 'secretive' talks with 'American buyers'. Talks which rumbled on for months and we were assured were 'ongoing' and at 'an advanced stage'.

All of these actions are always cloaked in deep secrecy and under the guise of 'non disclosure' legality. Leaving our support deeply frustrated and thus left to endlessly speculate and draw our own conclusions.

It's all absolute fucking bullshit.

They are playing the support for fools.
