Back to United... that's sure to be a story with a happier ending this year, right?

Best team won thank fuck.

They played with more fight and skill.

Victory for fitba.

Think we are capable of better than that tonight.  First half proved that.  They outplayed us second half but didnt have to be that way.

Think Croatia worked out a tactical way at half time and executed it well.

Perhaps one world class central midfielder away this year?

Was more than that mate.
To be honest if Tunisia had a better CH and Panama were another team you might not have fluked it to and past Columbia who had their best player missing.

Lucky draw and route to the Semi bud. I think eggland maxed out.

Well done for making it so far though.

I think we had enough to beat them tonight.  As you say, easier draw and thats no question so if we got Belgiums draw for example... maybe out in quarters.  Still an improvement.

Think one world class CM would have made difference tonight.

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

Played 6 won 3 drew 1 lost 2. Mid table at best  . 2/3 goals created from open play out of 12. Unbelievably lucky route to the final and still achieved the square root of f*#k all. Never mind, that 3rd place match should be a cracker!! Is Monday still a national holiday?

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

Fairplay RRDH.

You supported your countrymen with passion and hope which is what it's all about.

Not easy when you are up against all us Scotsmen who are starved of even the remotest of success and as a consequence probably a bit bitter.😆

No doubt see you on a similiar thread to this during Euro2020.

Only difference i hope is that the rest of us on this thread are talking about our own country and your's is just a passing thought to us all on that occassion.👍

True. Scotland v England final? Now that would be a thread to end all threads.

Well parts of the next Euro's are taking place in both Scotland and England.

See if both countries got there and drew each other the hysteria over where the game would be played alone....

Cheers tek.
Always look for Scotland to do well so hope you're right.  Supporting United given me plenty of heartbreak over the years.  Nights like this pale in comparison really.

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

If Kane had scored that chance to make it 2-0 it could have been a different story.  Croatia looked a different team after the break though and Modric and Rakitic controlled the game.  Modric - what a great wee player.

The longer the game went on, England just looked a bit clueless and had ran out of ideas.

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

I'm realising my pick of Germany to win and Timo Werner to be top scorer looks a bit unlikely now.

For all of the credit Southgate gets for galvanizing the team and interaction with the media he's not got much of a plan b. They were lumping long balls for a good part of that second half. Harry Kane looked lost(and knackered). Do they have to qualify for the Euros? I wouldn't be surprised to see a few people start to change their minds about him when the dust settles. Already a few little rumblings in the media. They're mentioning (quite rightly) about the success of their younger teams but how much game time will they get. Are Man City gonna play the star of that u-20 team or a guy they've just shelled out tens of millions on? England might get better if some of their stars headed abroad I reckon. Look at Croatia, how many champions league medals in that team? How many in the England team? People were slating Wilshere about moving to Turkey---I reckon it could've been the making of him. Look at Barry Douglas! I get the feeling a lot of English players are happy to sit back and pick up their massive wages in the Premier league over development as a player.

A lot of that absolutely spot on.  I thought he got away with murder against a poor Columbia side and would have gotten pasted if we'd have gone out.  Important to keep feet firmly on the ground.

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

England have always suffered through their attitude and been hated for it or tripped up by it and the world knows it.

This campaign was pre designed to succeed or do better and be more successful by kidding on the world, their haters and resultantly(or mainly) themselves that expectations were low and the failure and disrespect was down to the evil media.

They were only ever going to become their normal at a stage that mattered.

It is an achievement to finish 4th in the world for sure so credit is due for that but the whole thing has been orchestrated like a party political fkn election and full of fkn shite.

Says the biased lad currently wearing a Croatia top, very happy and very biased.

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

Said to the bairns afore the game that France should win by 2 or 3 goals but fitba can throw out results that surprise.

Surprised with the pen. Thought the ref was influenced by the slow motion replays. Shame as refs and VAR have been good.

Re: Who's winning the World Cup?

Refereeing was disgraceful in that game.  1st 2 French goals, never a foul, never a penalty.

Biggest game in the world ruined.

Still think France would have won, but that was seriously ridiculous.
