Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

Would be great to have Morris back.

Don’t think we should have let him go in the first place.

We have not been blessed with many decent centre halves in last few years

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

Morris was a decent defender, I'd have him back in a minute.

Center Halves are generally big cunts, I'll take mine with a football brain who wont sh1t himself in possession please.

Me I'll go for the big no nonsense types that clear their lines every time and can chip in with the odd goal or assist at set pieces. I prefer my silky, risky stuff to be at the opposite end of the park

Mark Durnan is no nonsense and clears his lines also chips in with the odd goal. That's most center halves at this level. Hes also fucking shite.

Not to be negative or anything but that's no upgrade on Durnan. Hes a championship defender. That's his level. Would be annoyed to put it mildly if he came back in.

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

By the way, think we've done alright with recruiting so far, mildly optimistic.  Not sold on it but encouraged by how quickly these moves are getting made.

Just so I don't come off as a negative twat.

Morris is leaving Dunfermline. Don’t be surprised to see him back here, I spotted him in the stand at a few games towards the end of last season. Looks like you are right about Morris. A wee bit surprising to me that he would return, given the treatment he was dished out by two previous managers (McNamara at McDiarmid and Mixu at Hampden as examples).

On another note, JerryDungle, of all the 'predictors' on here, you seem most clued up and close to the truth (imo).

Morris looked solid at premier level, injuries cost him, not performances.

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

The longer he is away the better he becomes. Morris made some major errors a fresh air swipe that led directly to a goal against hamilton
On the plus side Morris is the sort of player who will delay a tackle so he can go flying into a 50/50 challenge.
Thats the sort of thimg i like to see.

I'm not sure that I would regard Durnan as an example of being "no nonsense" or that he "clears his lines". Happy to agree he wasn't good enough for us.

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

Callum Morris had a very good opening season and i liked him a lot when he was beside Fojut.

By the end of his time at Utd i was happy to see the back of him. Started making too many errors and rash challenges.

Think we could do better.

Let's not forget he was part of a defence we scored against frequently ovee the past 2 seasons. One of the only teams we did this against actually.

Borderline devastated by this if true.  Most important positions on the field. Was fucking ordinary against us recently as well. If that's the caliber of center half we are bringing in. No danger we go anywhere next year. Fucking unreal the amount of dross we've accepted back at tannadice over the cunting years. Genuinely fucking clueless we are.

Morris has left Dunf to try his luck down South.

It’s nothing like that, I just happened to see him in the upper tier of the East Stand in one of our games towards the end of the season. He then walked past me up at Glebe Park when we beat them 5-0, he stopped at the back of the dugout and was talking to a few of the players and members of the coaching staff. I was just putting 2 and 2 together on it.

I’ve got no idea who else might be coming in as of now, other than Scott Robertson as part of the youth shakeup. I shat myself when I was told he was up at Tannadice a few weeks ago.

Morris’ other half is from here.

May well just have been ‘in the neighbourhood’ and wanted to watch a game.

Hopefully...

The Courier has us linked with Chris Millar at St. Johnstone.

A big, humongous no from me.

Christ almighty.

The standard of player we are linked with these days depresses the fuck out of me on a regular basis.

35, not a regular and tbh never stood out whenever I saw him.
A downgrade on flood.

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

I'm familiar with the name but couldn't pass comment on ability. Looks to have played plenty games for a workmanlike St. Johnstone side. Maybe would add some much needed experience?

Like Scobbie?

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

All this time we've had to identify replacements for key positions and the furthest we've looked is fucking Perth?

Even in the lower leagues, lower leagues down south there's bound to be unearthed talent.

Easy to say that in hindsight. I seem to remember a fairly positive reaction to Scobbie signing and there was a period where he seemed to have brought some steel and organisation to the defence.

There was a reasonably positive reaction to Scobbie, though that was soon wiped out once he actually played. I can’t say there was a period where I noticed him bringing any sort of steel or organisation to the defence. All I saw was a crock who was slower than a week in jail, who played without any sort of heart or motivation. Smeddum and the rest kept telling me what a great player he is, and how wrong I was to ever question his injury record or the fact that every team we came up against targeted him and his lack of pace.

But I wasn’t, I was right. Scobbie’s pish and is absolutely finished at full-time level. The only thing we can take from his time at Tannadice is a harsh lesson on signing ageing crocks who’ve never been anything other than mediocre. Hence why we should avoid signing this Millar character like the plague.

Re: Signings for next season ~ Rumours

We shouldn’t really be signing anyone over 30/31.

Unless it’s a decent goalkeeper.
