Essentially a totally meaningless game.
A chance to rest some and give others a chance to stake a claim for the upcoming play-Off matches.
I think i'd go with....
..............................LEWIS..............
MURDOCH...QUINN....EDJENGUELE..MASON
.......................BRIELS....SLATER....
.......McMULLAN...KADDED....SMITH...
............................CHALMERS.................
Subs - Donaldson, Gillespie, Glass, Lyng
Fraser, Scobbie, Appere,
We have seven days between games for the first time in 6 weeks. No 'resting' needed, I would pick our strongest team to get a psychological advantage over Livi cos I do think we'll beat Dunfermline over two legs and we'll playing Livi home & away in a couple of weeks time. Couple of exceptions tho, Durnan will be desperate for the close season having been playing thro an injury. And do we 'keep' Fraser for the play-offs? Anyway I'd keep Deniz in goal for the sake of continuity then make sure key players Ralston, Mohsni, Stanton, McMullan, King, McDonald are in the starting lineup. But whatever XI is chosen next week the manager is yet again in a no-win situation, he'll damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
I read somewhere that there's as much as £70k difference in prize money between places so I expect we'll be putting out a team to secure 3rd. Fuck knows what that will be though

And if we play our strongest XI and they beat us on Saturday?
You keep your powder dry till then.
Be madness to play Mohsni, Durnan, Stanton , Ralston etc on Saturday i.e. our best players.
Why risk them getting injured ?And why show Livi our strongest hand?

What to do depends on priorities/ambitions. If promotion is the aim we rest the likely first teams and save them for the play offs.
If getting the extra 70k is more important, play the best 11
In both cases no point playing the go nowhere stuff, no point picking def mids who canna defend, no point playing defenders that don’t close down, no point playing free kicks short.
Or alternatively cross fingers and hope for the best as we’ve been doing all season

Totally agree with that Tek.

Did I hear someone say £70k?
There's as much chance getting injured whilst training as there is whilst playing. They train 5 times a week, play 90 mins.
Like I said, the man's in a lose/lose position & I'm glad it's him picking the team.

Im not. I'd prefer if it was someone else picking it.
Online!
I want to see Gillespie back alongside Flood. The 2 work well together.

Really don't know what to expect. Livi are a physical, long ball team, and we are powderpuff, given what we are paying out in wages we might expect a Dundee United team to easily cope with these tactics. But we can't.
However, I wish we'd gone for just these (physical, long ball) tactics this season, and players to go along with that. We'd probably have been up by now.

Good to see you're a convert to these tactics Pat. I've been saying it for years. You can be sure that Dunfermilne & Livi (if we get that far) will have their number 1 tactic to try and kick UTD off the park. Until we get a manager who agrees with us we will continue to be in the 2nd tier.
I think with small, common sense tweaks we can massively increase our chances of play off success, even if CL insists on the current playing "style"
1. Mohsni, Mikkelsen & Durnan in the box for ALL free kicks, closer to the penalty spot the better. Aim to hit them first ball, not after trying to ping a Hollywood ball to the byline
2. Free kicks from the left should be inswingers to the back post taken by a right footer, vice-versa for free kicks on the right.
3. Have a long throw competition at training and the winner takes all throw ins within 30 yards of the goal
line.
4. If there's no pass on, play it over the defence into the corner for a throw then push up to the halfway line

I'm a 'convert' in the scenario we find ourselves in, the Championship, and the relegation situation two years ago: these developments called for more direct, robust football. And more direct, robust football players.

Laśzlo thankfully saying he will 'freshen' up the side tomorrow.
Would be madness to do anything other.
Particulary as Dunfermline will have to put out their strongest team to get the result they still need against Dumbarton tomorrow.

Dumbarton will be resting their players for the relegation play offs so DUnfermline shouldn’t need too strong a side and will be resting some players as well

Dunfermline will win tomorrow. If we draw or lose by playing a weakened team we'll end up 4th meaning we're at home on tuesday.

They play their strongest side ........................We play our strongest side............we get beat...?
What team would you play in the next game, if we make it that far, too many ifs and buts fir me.
So many scenarios, I just think you play your strongest team and try to broker a bit of confidence,on the run in.

Play an all out attacking team: see if that is effective, it doesn't hugely matter either way.
Just entertain us.

I think that could actually help us tbh.
Win the match and try and win it well, get our noses right in front in the tie.
Not that I want us to lose tomorrow of course.

I agree try to entertain tomorrow - no point doing otherwise
Yes £70k if we win but that is nothing compared to the difference it would make if we got up in the play offs
I think we are just as well at home first in play offs where we can get a lead to then defend in second leg
The priority is the play offs. Rest those that need rested. Give a chance to those on the fringes that might help over the next few games and need a run out
Likes of Matty Smith and Jordy Briels should be getting their chance
Rest Stanton, Flood, Mikk etc for another day

Not bothered about whether we're at home or away for the 1st leg, its what we do that matters. We could go for it like Liverpool, commit to attacking and get a 5-2 lead to take into the 2nd leg or we can play the way we've been doing for the last 4 years and get a draw or worse without troubling the opponents defence or keeper.
If we are going out, I'd at least like to see us having a proper go, the worst scenario for me is going out playing Csaba's boring non attacking, non entertaining, unsuccessful brand of football. Skip the 2 defensive mids - they don't work and play 3 up top

Been at a football tournament with my wee Lads club today.
How did we play today?
Reading the bbc match stats and it seems Slater was involved quite a lot?

I thought we were poor.
Was speaking to a livi fan 5 minutes ago. He said we'll beat Dunfermline (i agree) we'll win at tannadice (agree again) but theyll beat us at the tony macaroni
