Re: DUFC January Transfer Deadline Day

Manager insists on playing this 4-2-3-1 formation despite the fact that since the St Mirren game we've been without one of the most crucial elements needed to make it work

Luckily the window doesn't slam shut in just over an hour.

Another January window where players have came in but I don't think the side is stronger, quantity over quality.

No stronger and less able to create anything with Fraser out.

We now have a possible SIX holding midfielders (Flood,Gillespie,Slater,Murdoch,Briels, and
Allardice).

But NONE of them as good as Fraser Fyvie was in that position.

In short, I think Csaba's made a cunt of it. For me there is still a ridiculous squad imbalance.

We have a pretty damn big squad now but the same failings will be the same going forward (failure to create, failure to score often, no real physicality, no real pace, no one who can cross a ball well etc's).

Resigned to another year in this absolute dogshit league tbh.

Might seem a big squad on paper. I make it 24, of which 5 are long term injuries, another 4 have lengthy sick-notes in their time with us and another 6 have very limited game time. Our 2 best players are injured, we cant afford to drop out out-of-form keeper, we have a host of light-weights & past-its and we will still be playing with Dev Squad on the bench for the rest of the season. Similarly resigned

Re: DUFC January Transfer Deadline Day

Still nobody to provide pace and crosses into the box, as far as I can see.

I'm taken aback by Csaba's blindness.

I'm not Pat, I've written him off as a numptie and in a while we'll be looking for yet another manager

They can't all be numpties?
Must be something else.

Sorry I disagree, possibly hard to believe but they have all been numpties - one-trick ponies, without any semblance of a strategy (apart from Jackie making money for himself ) or  the ability to assess situations and come up with suitable plans or make changes when Plan A isn't working. The biggest numptie of course is the chairman who keeps appointing managers that play the same duff way. I dont think a Fun supporter could have inflicteded as much havoc as ST has done and yet he comes out with " I always tried to do what in the best interests of United". Utter tosh.

No, he, like a lot of modern managers, thinks that full backs should be the ones to put crosses into the box. The wingers all effectively play as number 10s and their job is to slip wee passes through or play the full backs in. Not saying it's right but he's not alone in that respect. In England they all play like that.  They have full backs like Kyle Walker and Antonio Valencia though.  We've got Jamie Robson and Stewart Murdoch and therein lies the problem. The way managers like Duffy and Johnston play is ideal for the Championship.  Our way is not unless you have the players to do it.  Once we lost Fyvie and Fraser that style effectively went out the window.

Going by what was said in the Fed’s meeting with MM and JF about us signing two “number 6’s, I’m assuming we’re signing Paul Paton in the next few days.

The meeting was on Tuesday remember and said 2 'possible' signings tomorrow i.e. Wednesday. It's now Friday so must have only been able to get Gillespie.

Truly unbelievable that he wanted TWO number 6's btw.

He's clueless.

Paton won’t have been released unless he had something lined up, I won’t be at all suprised if he shows up in the next couple of days.
