A good time for a break from the league. Hopefully we can play ourselves back into form with this one and then I think we'll beat Morton the following week.

Is Jim Goodwin still Alloa manager? Prepare for a physical battle!

This game concerns me.

Alloa know if they get in our faces we won't like it. Particulary on a tight wee ground where the supporters are on top of you and on a plastic pitch to boot.

Bad fucking days when you have the fear about Alloa.

The one thing I don't want is to get through to the next round and draw a team that will give us a proper going over and destroy any fragile confidence we have. Which could be any one of a lot of teams to avoid.

Re: Alloa v Utd - Sat 20/1/18 (3pm)

Quick reminder of how the game panned out back in September. 3-1 Utd but 2 goals in injury time and the other goal a pen.

Speaks volumes for McKinnon's recruitment btw that the 2 Strikers who started this match and were only both signed during the LAST transfer window have both already been subsequently released from their contracts.😂😂

Feeling a bit this way also about this one. This game is a distraction and would rather be playing a league game and concentrating on getting the fek oot this league. Terrible to say that about the Scottish cup. Probably the first time I have felt this way.

I suppose it gives us a stress break.

Re: Alloa v Utd - Sat 20/1/18 (3pm)

As Tek pointed out, Its scary how far into the mire we have sunk, when i am praying for a favourable performance and result against ALLOA ffs, to boost our players and supporters confidence. And your also right TD, scottish cup runs were great days out in the past, just not feeling it the last few seasons such is the lack of quality and lack of fight we've have in our squads of late, very sad times, hope were not to far from the corner, we have all suffered enough.

Re: Alloa v Utd - Sat 20/1/18 (3pm)

There is a lack of excitement about the cup, yet we got to the semi a couple of years ago.

Almost into the Final, and a likely pumping from the huns: my fear is drawing them again at some stage when we are at the lowest ebb.

The whole club is on a downer it seems, and as SuperMario points out on another thread, we have been very unlucky with injuries. Even reading Stuart Armstrong was going to be out for a while this morning put a damper on the imagination, as I was thinking of a cash boost for us if he left Parkhead.

That said, I'll be at The Recs on Saturday, and I won't be hoping we get beaten. A loss would be even harder on our fragile confidence than a defeat from a club in a higher division in the next round.

Re: Alloa v Utd - Sat 20/1/18 (3pm)

Mibbee we should play an Irn Bru XI v Alloa so we don't go into the hat & so can't get drawn against a big team in the next round & get embarrassed.
Sorry but I'm detecting a little bit of fizzypopitis about the Big Cup now.

That's just a daft comment.

The reasons folk were put off the Irn Bru Cup were made clear to anyone who cared to take in that information. So read what's written rather than attempt to be a detective, and discovering something that isn't there.

For what it's worth, when we are in it, I love the Scottish Cup, but couldn't give a toss about it once out. But I don't think Junior clubs should have been allowed in.................

Re: Alloa v Utd - Sat 20/1/18 (3pm)

I'd play:

                      Mehmet

Ballantyne Durnan Scobbie Robson

                     Allardice
           Flood               Stanton
                        Slater

               Lyng     McDonald

Keep it tight in the middle, get the full backs high up the pitch for width, Allardice to sit in front of the back 4 and drop into back 3 if wing backs are caught up the field. Lyng and McDobald up top to test the big man/we man combo. Lyng to hold up the play and knock down/on for McDonald.
As the game goes on and there back line starts to tire then the likes of King, Smith, McMullan etc for pace.

Re: Alloa v Utd - Sat 20/1/18 (3pm)

I agree with B+T and Pat. There doesn't seem the usual buzz about the Scottish Cup (fwiw i never felt it last season either).

I think it's as simple as we all know we have no chance of winning the tournament and once you know that deep down you think 'what's the point?'.

All we can hope is we play well, win well and help get our confidence back a wee bit. Winning by a few goals would give the support and whole club a wee 'shot in the arm'.

My team would be.

...........................Mehmet...................
Ballantyne...Durnan..Scobbie..Robson
.....................Slater......Flood...
............King.......Stanton....McMullan..
..........................McDonald.....

Subs - Lewis,Murdoch,Lyng,Quinn
            Chalmers,Smith,Allardice

*Not dropping Lewis exactly but would like to see Mehmet get a chance. Same goes for Ballantyne. Stanton for me is much better deployed further forward. Don't think he is a DCM*

I’d go with this line up
