IF we won on Saturday?

And won well.Would anyone be in favour of giving Ellis more time in charge? Maybe till January and then take it from there?

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

It's not going to happen that way though. I like the lad. I like how he handled the post match interview. I like that the players got a result under him too but it only helps me want to keep him as a part of a team for a new manager whilst it seems that's going to be the way it'll go anyway.

I'm asking hypothetically Mr P.

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

No.

None of the names we're lookin at for manager excite me tbh, but that's just the level we're at.  The important thing is it's someone who can get the squad working for him and get the respect required that keeps them going when it gets tough, that's where Ray really failed.  I'm certainly not convinced Ellis is the answer to that.

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

I believe Laurie Ellis would do as good a job as anybody.
If we beat St Mirren tomorrow I think he will be looked upon as a serious candidate & I think there could be a good bit of fan-power in that direction.
If we lose he'll not be considered as the new manager but will still be a good shout for assistant manager depending on the conditions of whoever is appointed.
That's how fickle the whole selection process really is, we don't know what we're going to be getting whoever comes so why not the deil ye ken?

As goodbye a job as anyone based on what?
His track record of one game? What you've heard about him in the past week? His interview on arabzone?
There will be no fan power in that direction whatsoever 😂
He's not the devil we know as no one knows anything about him as a manager.
This is the most outstandingly ridiculous post I've read recently.

You might think the theme of smedDUm's post is ridiculous, but his similarly angled contribution from Mad has made the national press today ('I'/Independent).

For me that seals it: to have such a comment accepted by the UK print media marks smeDUm down as bonkers!

But what if it did save us money and also made sense?

Keeping Ellis in the job till the season's end might free up a bit of cash so we can get 1 0r 2 players in in January.

You honestly believe we'll end January with more players than we enter it, whoever the manager is?

Tek etc, I'd say aye. I'm answering the question you set... keeping the players we have. TheShed has altered the query a wee bit.

A manager has to be good and lucky, and there's no way of knowing if a new appointment or Laurie Ellis can be lucky.

I'm just happy to win.

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

If Ellis gets longer in charge the minute he loses a game all hell will break out hes too inexperienced open season on ST for picking the cheap option.
Ellis will get his chance but not yet

I honestly couldn't give a fuck who the new manager is as long as they get results, so IF that was possible then yes.  However it's not going to mean we can improve the squad as we have no money, but I'm sure u know that.

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

He's a coach and that's it, let's get this new manager in early next week and push on in this league.

Flip side of the coin of course would be a new manager coming in after Ellis has done well and gets off to a bad start...

If the board haven't been convinced by any of the candidates so far I'd rather they didn't appoint (for now) just for the sake of it.

Ive been impressed by the way Ellis has set the team out and by how he has conducted himself - early days of course but he's done well.

Given most fans think we have a decent/better than last year/stronger than other teams squads, my priority would be to get the "good manager" in post to make the most of our better players. A good manager will also get more from the existing squad which is equivalent to getting a couple of new players in. However given what Ellis is currently achieving, there is no need to rush into anything other than the right choice for us.

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

Lost count the amount of times i've read on here (and elsewhere) 'that's the best we've played in ages'.

Ellis has made tough choices (dropping Fyvie,McMullan and Edjenguele). And he has very quickly got Stanton and Flood back playing.

He deserves a crack at it (if he wants it) imo.

I've lost count of the times in recent times that we've all come away from games saying "that's the worst I've seen in ages". I'll take performances like yesterday every day of the week compared to the drivel served up by McKinnon.

Got speaking to a boy at the game yesterday. He reckons the mystery man is Gaizka Mendieta.  Probably a load of scheicht though.

Tend to agree. It would hold more weight if some of the players were to come out and back him.

Re: IF we won on Saturday?

no we should not be taking a chance on a rookie manager.

these players are playing at this level to impress the next manager coming in. we need an experienced manager who's going to get the best out of this lot when we hit out next sticky patch.

Sadly it's a fact powered by statistics that we'll be taking a chance on whoever comes in as manager, total rookie to vastly experienced & 50 shades between.

agree to a point where every manager with our budget is a gamble however imo appointing Ellis would be right there with anything that Thompson has done.
