Respect what he did in 2010 but will always regard him as a bellend I'm afriad.

He went into contract negotiations and didn't enjoy the fact he was being asked to take less money (still more than most other managers in the league) and then slagged United off in that horrible press conference while still on the books. Further to that, every time falkirk played United he always brought up our budget - the same budget he felt he couldn't work with.

Houston was untested as a manager and managed to wangle levein wage as ST was desperate for him to stay on. When it became too much, he thought he was too big for United and then sat in the wilderness for years.

His brand of football wasn't anything more exciting than ray McKinnon and I certainly wouldn't be desperate to see him come back through the door...if he was Mourinho, I'd maybe change my mind

Totally agree. His sides were adventurous when he took over, but following the cup win he resorted to safety first. Without it being very safe. A third in his first shared (with Craig Levein) season. Fourth the next, fifth the next, sixth the season he left......and we were in the bottom half when he left.

And bad enough looking on some ex-players as potential managers without going for an ex-manager.

I have some sympathies with Houstie. He was part of the best United set up since the wee Jim days. After he won the cup he lost 5 first team players and another 5 the following season. He had a hard job then and was asked to take a pay cut after Levein got punted from the national job and United lost the contribution Scotland made to his salary and wasn't up for ST's new business model of flogging the assets. Although I was unhappy to see him go at the time, I wouldn't want him back now.

I desperately don't want McLeish who has wrecked every club he's been with and supporters of these clubs were not happy with the unattractive football his teams served up. I couldna bear listening to Yogi on a regular basis either. Pressleys also a no from me. The Dunfermline supporters in my family have a very high regard for McIntyre as do my former workmates in Dumfries and Billy Reid did a brilliant job for Hamilton.

My pref is McIntyre or Reid and the latter if we want to avoid appointing an ex player

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Re: Laurie ellis

Heard Laurie Ellis is held in very high regard as a coach and the players want him to stay. Wouldn't be fussed if he stayed as an assistant or a 1st team coach but Taylor could get to fuck.

What in the name of fuck have I just read?

Houston's 'brand of football' won us a Cup and secured us 3 Top 4 finishes (that's top 4 as in the top 4 in SCOTTISH FOOTBALL).
