Next up Linfield...

Some diverse opinions on another United forum including -
- wear green
- forfeit the game
- players all cross themselves
- play all the youngsters
- forfeit the game at 4.45
- 'batter' them with our strongest team
- play the bairns
- same team as at East End Park
- McKinnon out

Personally I'm looking forward to it, an intriguing tie with the prospect of added spice & I think we'll play 80% our strongest team with the other 20% being carefully selected. Don't think forfeiting the tie half an hour before kick-off would endear us to the world nor BBC Alba.

Re: Next up Linfield...

McKinnon has said it will be mostly youngsters. I would imagine guys needing to up their fitness like Fraser will also get a game.

Re: Next up Linfield...

Aye hopefully get Fraser some game time and give some youngsters a run out.

Re: Next up Linfield...

Bad enough we have to tolerate the Green and Blue Weegie bigots, without inviting this lot into the game

Re: Next up Linfield...

I looked up their website & tickets go on sale there tomorrow.
I see it's £10 & £5 concs.
I imagine they might bring several hundred from Belfast and local knuckle-draggers might take it to a thousand.?

Re: Next up Linfield...

Local Linfield fan saying that they will be lucky to take 100 genuine fans to Tannadice, as Northern Ireland are playing on Saturday night as well: some Belfast fans are travelling to that, and some have been put off by combination of live television, staying over costs given the ko time.

Plus, European money is important to them, so it's likely they will field a shadow squad so as to prevent injuries for the forthcoming key league matches against Coleraine who are presently top, and Crusaders, local rivals.

However, there is a strong possibility that a few Scots may turn up looking for a bit of nonsense.

I was only being derogatory towards any morons who come looking for trouble in the name of the Belfast Sevco.
Your average Sevco fan is a fine honourable fellow.

You'd think all but the most loyal (as it were) fans would just watch it on the telly (I'm assuming that's why it's a 17:15 ko?)

Re: Next up Linfield...

I think a lot of first team players are needing wrapped up in cotton wool judging by Ray's comments on Arabzone on Saturday. I can see the team being something like this:

Deniz

Flood (simply because he's not been playing much recently)
Davidson
Allardice
Dailly

Thomas
Stanton

Chalmers
Fraser (if fit) / Taylor
M. Smith

N'Koyi

Subs: Donaldson (GK), Reekie, Davie, Taylor/Bollan, McMeekin, Appere, Piggot.

Too much commotion

Re: Next up Linfield...

I'd play a strong team personally.

Would be lovely to beat them and also to keep the winning run going.

Re: Next up Linfield...

Yup. I wouldn't go full strength but I really don't like the idea of Irish teams progressing in a Scottish tournie - especially one which they get preferential treatment in.

Knock em out and then play the kids after

Re: Next up Linfield...

Would play the likes of Mehmet in goal, Allardice, Stanton, Fraser (if fit), Matty Smith, N'Koyi, Chalmers, Dailly. We need fringe players and youngsters match fit and playing.

Re: Next up Linfield...

Ray said on Arabzone he's playing even more kids than usual next week because of injuries.

Happy with that, be glad to see some youngsters and fringe players get a game, also those coming back from injuries. Happily sacrifice this competition to just concentrate on the league.

What about the programme seller at the entrance to the ET lower? Or the Fraser Fyvie-lookalike chief steward(ess) at the front of the Jerry Kerr?

Re: Next up Linfield...

Decent result given the young team we had out imo

Re: Next up Linfield...

Decent 2nd half from the kids.  Allardice again showing CH is his position, good finish from Chalmers, Taylor again looked decent, Mehmet also again looked decent.

Fuck Linfield.

Bring on Crusaders or New Saints away.

Re: Next up Linfield...

Thought the youngsters did well tonight and came into the game the longer it went on.

Mehmet - Looks a 'safe pair of hands'.Made a couple of decent saves too and looks positionally sound.A big upgrade on Zwick as our No.2. 7/10

Ritchie - Thought the kid did ok. 6/10

Murdoch - Looked decent at Centre Half. His best game for awhile 7/10

Allardice - My Motm.Looked very assured at CH and passed the ball well 8/10

Hornby - Tough start to the game for him but he came onto it and did ok 6/10

Taylor - The wee man came right into the game in the 2nd half.Very inlucky not to score with his shot that came off the inside of the post 7/10

Thomas - Pretty quiet game overall but another who came into a bit more late on when the game opened up 6/10

Stanton - Some nice passing at times.Needs to show a bit more belief in himself and try and get forward more 6/10

Smith - Bit dissapointing from Matty today. He was quiet 5/10

N'Koyi - Poor show from Paddy.1st touch really lets him down too often 5/10

Piggott - Never imposed himself enough in the match for a big lad.Done very little tbh 5/10

Subs -

Dailly - Done just fine. 6/10

Chalmers - Took his goal really well.Chuffed for the kid to get his first goal for Utd. 7/10

Re: Next up Linfield...

Impressed by Archie Thomas, solid display and fast at moving play up,out of the last 3rd when deep and linked well with those in front of him. Looked very confident.

Re: Next up Linfield...

Have to agree with most of the comments so far, I think the young lads done well, and the keeper looked sound enough.

But am I alone in thinking Murdoch, Stanton and N'Koyi, should really have stood out a lot more considering the opposition.

I don't know a lot, but I know what I like!

Re: Next up Linfield...

I was VERY impressed by that tonite, thoroughly satisfying.
1st half was please get it over with, Linfield score & let us go home.
THEN!!!! The longer the game went on the better we got.
Some great passages of play us we started to overrun a vastly more experienced XI.
I can't praise that team tonite enough, I was exhilarated at the end.
Taylor, Ritchie, Allardice take a bow.
We can't help ourselves exit this competition, 11 changes and we beat a Champions' League side - make no bones about it, they're seek!!
