I doubt we had the budget to offer him what he was on, even if we wanted to.

Probably true but surely you still offer him something if it means the club would be entitled to compo , no?

Spittal at RB surely wouldn't be any worse than Murdoch or Toshney, had he called our bluff and signed an extension had he been offered one.

Surely something like this would fall under david southern? Surely he would be aware of this being the case?
Clueless

Stupidity of the highest order.

The story in the Herald was written by Graeme McGarry.
Here's stuff he's written about Spittal since the end of last season-Â
31st May
"But it is believed that United boss McKinnon won’t be offering Spittal a new deal at Tannadice, leaving him free to join another club without the need for any compensation to be paid."
16th June
"The 21-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the club after turning down the chance to stay at Dundee United. 'I had the option of coming here or staying at United' "
28th September
"...with the Tannadice club failing to offer the player a contract until well after the deadline for compensation to be due."
In May, no offer was being made.
In July, Spittal had been offered another deal.
In September, an offer had been made, but too late for compensation.
All the above, according to Graeme McGarry.
I wouldn't put any trust in what Scottish journalists have to say about any aspect of Scottish football.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we offered him a deal too late to be entitled to compo.
Our club is riddled with incompetence at the very heirarchy of the organisation.
Btw i don't think Spittal was anywhere near as bad as some of our supporters believed him to be (as he is proving at Partick) and as Rocky said would have been a better option at RB even than what we have.

We would have had to offer him at least would he was on ( JMac era wages) to be entitled to a development fee. Can you imagine the reaction from some of those who are using this to slag off the club if he had actually resigned on that money?

Spittal was underrated by a lot of the support, no doubt.
And United maybe failed to offer him a contract by the required date (which I think is the last day of the season, and which must equal or better what he was previously on). I think he was possibly on an inflated wage in comparison to his ability in 2014, when he signed a three year deal. To be fair, it would be difficult to offer him a Scottish Premiership wage in 2017, when we were sitting in the Championship.
But the point I was making: the journalist has changed his information over time regarding the situation, and we don't know what the facts are in relation to United's actions (or inactions).

Is this true?

Course it's true.
Unless one of the clubs involved plays at Ibrox, of course.

F4: If a Club wishes to re-engage a Professional Player and/or preserve any right that it
may wish to assert to Compensation, such Club must have sent to the Player, to his
last known home address or delivered to him personally, and copied to the
Secretary, not later than fourteen days prior to the expiry of the term of the
Player’s Contract of Service, a written offer of re-engagement in accordance with
Rule F5.
F5: An offer of re-engagement for the purposes of Rules F4 must be for a term of not
less than one year, on:-
replacement terms which are, in the opinion of the Board, not less
favourable in all monetary respects, on an annual comparison basis, with
the immediately preceding year of his employment, except that a signing on
fee and/or any additional or other lump sum payments included in the
previous terms need not be repeated

There's a bit of ambiguity about the compo rule up here as i discovered yesterday when discussing this same topic on Pat's favourite social media site.
It would seem there are rules written under the articles of the ENGLISH FA that you must offer a player 24 or under a new deal on at least the same terms if you are to be entitled to training compensation.
But i couldn't find anything in the SFA or SPFL's articles of association to confirm it's the same process up here.
FWIW i would have offered him the same terms. He would have turned it down anyway but even if he didn't i can't imagine he was anywhere near one of our top earners.
He was signed from an amateur team don't forget.

I think the clubs in a no win situation with this. Not a lot of people cared when he left saying he wasn't good enough for DUFC and would probably moaned if he had resigned on same wages. But because he was let go everyone is up in arms because we got nothing from his move. In my opinion there's nothing to get excited about. We move on.

Och it's gone Tek, if there has been a mistake made then as long as we learn from it.
Blair Spittal is the least of our concerns.
Wish him the best & a hat-trick v The Fun.

How many mistakes are they gonna make though?
If its costing the club money do you find that acceptable?

Well first of all what is the club being accused of, losing some sort of compensation payment? Allegedly. It's probably a load of sh1te anyway & all we're doing is picking up yet another stick to beat the club with.
Did you see yon shambles at NDP last nite, there's a mess for you. There's an awful lot much worse off than us.
Btw has The Rangers striker Kenny Miller dropped his surname? He's never referred to anything other than 'Kenny'. Kenny this, Kenny that, Kenny fukn everything. Is it KENNY on the back of his shirt. West coast Mafia p1sh.

Are you reffering to Hamilton Acidemical?
A team who play a division higher than us (despite having 1,000 supporters).
A team who we failed to score against (and defeated us) over two Play-Off legs this year.
Yeah....fuck being them.😨

Was more talking about the Accies opposition Tek.
Yon is a disaster, would you swap places with them?
Accies?? Thank phuk I'm a lifelong Arab.
