Donating your body to science

After yir gone.

Bit of a macabre subject matter,i know.

I have been considering it recently and like the thought of helping someone else after i'm gone,but...

Despite not being religious in the least,i still feel very uneasy about the whole thing somehow.

Anybody else ever considered it at all?

Re: Donating your body to science

I know someone who passed away recently, and this was the arrangement they had made. No funeral as such, just a memorial service. This wish of the deceased and the immediate family was only publicised to the non-family when the death was announced in the paper.

Re: Donating your body to science

Like you mate I like the idea of it but I've recently said it's up to my wife to decide (or kids if she's deid first).

I know we should let out wishes be known but quite frankly I'm dead, I'm past caring.

If she wants to burn, bury or freeze that's her call as far as I'm concerned, whatever is easier, I don't think its right that they hand over my body to science because I wanted them too but they find it too difficult.

I'm going to a burial tomorrow, have only been to the crem in the last 20 odd years, so not looking forward to it tbh.

I think that's where i feel uneasy mate.

I'm gone. What do i care?It would be one of the best things i could ever do in my life to help someone else potentially maintain there's.

But there's also the thought of my son, wife, brothers, whoever sitting there thinking my bodies no even in the coffin and has been dismantled.

Sounds like a fucking daft thing to say but i'm not sure if i'll have the guts to do it.

All the best tomorrow btw mate.Always a very hard day.

Re: Donating your body to science

Completely agree bud, my thoughts exactly.

Bad choice of words re burial tomorrow, obviously not looking forward to any funeral but feels worse being there than crem IMO.

Re: Donating your body to science

I think I would/will go for a bit of a halfway house on this one. Will probably give permission for any organs demeed fit for use to be taken, but will draw the line there. I'm the same as you guys, want to help someone potentially, but something seems to be holding me back going full on. Sentiment perhaps, even though we will be dead? Hard for our minds to see past it sometimes.

Re: Donating your body to science

Probably donate organs. The only thing holding me back is they could be donated to an smoker or alcoholic etc, don't like the thought of that. I'm not sure if the person donating has control over that.

Re: Donating your body to science

I'm "organised" for every usable bit of me, university can have what's left if they want.

Re: Donating your body to science

I'm 77 years old, and recently took the steps necessary to donate my body. I have no regrets that for once I may be doing something from which other folk may benefit.

Doubt you will mate unless you donate them whilst alive

Respect,Leedsy.

What happens in regards a funeral then,if you don't mind me asking?

Do they cremate what's left of you and give the urn to your wife or what?

Sorry, forgot to answer your question until now.... Yes, that's right. They throw in a wee service, but I'm giving that a swerve!
