Re: Brad Smith released

Obviously not that highly rated WeeDude.
Yeah I thought he was to be knocking on the door of the first team this season but when you look at the midfielders on our staff now there was maybe not much room for him.
Did he have a year's contract? Must have gone with a pay-off so maybe not freeing up much wages at all.

Re: Brad Smith released

Allardice and Thomas both younger but it would seem both ahead of him in regards to getting near the first team. Expected him to go out on loan, but not surprised by this.

Good luck mate!

Re: Brad Smith released

Shame, thought he was a talented lad and I always like to see local boys get a chance.

Good luck to him, hopefully he gets sorted out elsewhere.

Re: Brad Smith released

I heard that before Christmas McKinnon and Ellis spoke to Brad Smith and a few others in the u20s and said that he needed to start consistently producing quality performances for the u20s or when out on loan to show he was first team material. That never happened when you look at how poor/inconsistent the u20s performances were. He also went out on a brief loan to Albion Rovers and didn't start many games either. It's a shame for the laddie since in the Challenge Cup game v Dunfermline he looked right at home in the first team and Michael Stewart praised him in the commentary.

I suspect he's got something lined up. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up at a lower end Championship club like Brechin, Livingston or Dumbarton or, with Raith Rovers in League 1.

Re: Brad Smith released

Happy for the lad that he's going. He was a stand out in the dev games I saw. However, with all the midfield options we've got he's not going get a look at the first team so at least United are not mucking him around  and giving him a chance to get a game somewhere else. I'm confident he will get a club.
