At Links Park.

Will be our opening pre-season friendly.

Don't think I've ever been looking forward to a season less.

Anyone going to the game tomorrow? I'll be there with the young lad, hoping to see a few of the new boys maybe getting a run out.

Wonder what the odds are on a Sean Dillon winner?

You just never know! Imagine Bell, Flood, Fraser and Toshney miss out due to the surface.

Hopefully toshney is finished would be much better than missing out due to the surface.

Still on holiday so won't make it

Re: Tuesday July 4th v Montrose (7.30pm ko)

Please don't write off Toshney Bowers.
Remember how Durnan was written off a season and a half ago, cue wheelie bin?
I predict LT to be a success this season, please all let's back him from the terraces.
He's a big lad & can be a good physical presence for us too.
Bet you a Rishi's he comes good, bet settled mid-May 2018.

I take it that's Josh Donaldson in goal.

Agree. Toshney has some good qualities in amongst the raft of duff ones. He is nimble, has a good engine, is strong in the challenge, good in the air and can do a job for us if he can keep the nut and stick to the things he is good at. Don't try to be a defender, dont try to be clever, don't try to be a hard man - none of these thing work. Derek Stark would be a great role model for Tosh - he just put in the challenges, usually winning the ball then laid it off to someone else to do the clever stuff and Derek Stark was no mean player himself.

Our manager has a big job here - he said when he came he would make players better. Up til now he's done no such thing, in fact he's done the opposite. If Ray ups his game and does what he said he would, players like Tosh might just have a chance and we might just about have a chance of going up instead of the 2nd half of last season's relegation form

Yeah Bill,it's Josh Donaldson in goals. Will be his first start for Utd.

3 trialists also featuring tonight.

I presume 1 of them is Paul Quinn.

Re: Tuesday July 4th v Montrose (7.30pm ko)

Toshney's a big haddie.Knew that after 20 minutes of his debut.

No amount of 'getting behind him' will change that fact I'm afraid.

I doubt he will feature much this season.

I would presume one of the trialist is actually a goalie

Goalie trialist not done anything good or bad.
Number 6 looks like Quinn - seems to be an organiser - big tall lad. Not had a lot to do.

Number 10 trialist is a holding midfielder. Not really done much of note

Re: Tuesday July 4th v Montrose (7.30pm ko)

Some really good stuff at times tonight, king keating (wasn't brilliant) and McMullen are all definitely upgrades on last season, king was superb so direct! Finally wingers with pace and drive, superb really looking forward to seeing them this season!

Number 10 in middle of the park was really really good, never lost the ball and hard in the tackle, would give him another game and if he's good again, get him signed up, allardice along side him was just as good though!

Trialist goalie done absolutely nothing, another game required

Overall thought; quick attacking play finally, think Quinn and number 10 will get signed, front 3 exciting, mon the fucking shed

Re: Tuesday July 4th v Montrose (7.30pm ko)

My take:

So trialist keeper looked decent but really had nothing to do 6.
Murdoch was solid enough 6.
Trialist no 6 was Paul Quinn who looked pretty good 7.
Edge solid and popped in with a goal 7,
Robson looked a bit shakey at times 5,
Allardice looked solid in the middle 6,
trialist at 10 was pretty decent got stuck in and passed the ball well but was more a sitting midfield player 7,
Keatings did ok not a target man however 6,
Matty Smith did well enough and got a goal 7,
King was ok but no more, never really got into the game 5,
McMillan was MOTM looks electric, direct and will blast people 9,
N'Koyi got about 25mins looked decent and has a few tricks and flicks missed a sitter however somehow managed to header over the bar when the goal was gapping 6,

others notables were Ballantyne looked solid when he came as did Scobbie. All in all a decent performance and controlled from start to finish. Good reception for Dillon who had to come off with a head gash.

Re: Tuesday July 4th v Montrose (7.30pm ko)

Funny how we all see the game differently!

Thought number 10 and Matty Smith were bang average in the first half, although both improved in second half.

My mom was McMullen - good passing, fast and strong for a wee lad.

Keetings and king both did fine but it didn't quite happen for them.

Scobbie, Durnan, edge and Quinn all did really well and talked the youngsters through the game. If we had those 4 for the season ahead, I don't think we would lose too many goals.

N'koyi did ok. Maybe taken aback by the speed of the game but plenty touches that would make me think there's quality in there.

Of the young lads, I was most impressed with canny ballantyne. Fast, loves a challenge and had some lung bursters up the right wing.

Edit to say, good team performance. Played 442ish. Concentrated on retention of the ball. Played down the flanks. Better to watch

Was it a proper 442 then?

1st half, ish. Keatings and Matty smith up top. Lacked any sort of target man/strong forward.

2nd half I think so but was at the opposite end of the pitch n couldn't see formation

Re: Tuesday July 4th v Montrose (7.30pm ko)

Playing 442 in itself encourages me, a more positive approach is needed in this league.
