The 'squad of 18'
Ray wants a squad of 18 players that he knows can come in and not make the squad weaker.
As of this point if Flood signs as well as Murdo I'm saying we only have 11 of those at the minute.

2 Durnan
3 Edge
4 Scobbie
5 Toshney
6 Robson
7 Murdoch
8 Flood
9 Keatings
10 King
11 Fraser
we then have some more that make up an 18 of young players you would say he must be unsure if he could trust to come into the first team and not make us weaker. Maybe a loan required for a few of these boys

My point here is that Ray must have around 6 or 7 signings still in mind if he is to get this '18' to go with for the season ahead. Looking forward to see what we get. Fingers crossed this whole Darren Taylor thing pays off and we unearth some players that take us to the next level and give us confidence that we will smash this league!

In my opinion, only 6 of those names should be considered first choice in their position. Those being Bell, Edge, Durnan (maybe), Scobie, Keating and King
The rest in my opinion are either back up squad members, not ready to be considered first team picks or should be moved as far away as possible from Tannadice.

I don't think he means he wants a squad of 18, I think he means he wants 18 players all capable of doing a job at 1st team level, but the squad will also include the most promising developments players

Again.
We need more than 18 players who are capable of playing first team football week in week out.
None of the Development boys look capable of stepping-up yet (Maybe Ballantyne).
We need competition this coming season.The complete lack of it was a big part of our downfall last season.
Players should have to fight for their jersey.Pig sick of players getting a jersey week in week out because there are no other real options.
Get a squad of 25.All players in their early to late 20's.Low wages,but good bonuses the way it used to be.
Fill the squad with pace,strength and desire.
Have players fighting to impress.To keep their place in the team.

Ray wants 18? I doubt it.
I'd say it's more like Ray has a budget for 18, that's why Murdoch gets re-signed because he can cover 2 positions (as can Scobbie), expect a couple of the signings still to come will be similarly versatile.
First pick & cover for each position as it stands, obvious that we need more attacking options big time, I'd like a CH a creative CM and a RB as well but 2 strikers and 2 wingers first please.
