I was thinking the other day if United is in such a bad financial state why Tannadice isn't getting used for other ventures during the summer months?
For example Falkirk have a big Madness concert on at the Falkirk stadium this summer. They had a gig on last week, some 80s retro weekend with old school acts playing. Kilmarnock, Inverness and Aberdeen have all held Elton John and rod Stewart concerts in recent years. It's all extra money for an empty stadium.
The s.f.a make sure they get their money's worth from Hampden so why not us from Tannadice? maybe there's an obviously reason that I don't see? I live in Glasgow so I m not sure how big the music scene in Dundee is but I do know a big venue was built recently ( sessor garden?) so I d imagine bigger acts will come to Dundee now.
All I m saying is if there's a market in Falkirk for it surely there is in Dundee? Let's get it done before the Fun get there first!
Also like to note other clubs have had additional uses from their grounds too, like hotels, casinos and even nurseries/day care built into the facilities. Just an idea obviously, but I d interested if anyone knew a reason why none of this could be possible at United?

How about a greyhound racetrack? Or maybe a monorail?

I've heard the reason for no pop concerts is due to the inadequate parking around Tannadice.

I heard parking was a reason too, but I don't get that part really, cause rugby parks Elton John concert was a sell out at only 15 thousand, only a thousand more than United could get on a big match day. Don't see there being a problem if the attendance was capped at 14k

Neither do i tbh.
I would like to put that question to someone at the club actually.
Get a proper explanation because it does seem a revenue stream missed.

Local residents complained about 1 drum (allegedly), can't imagine a full concert would go down well.

The fact that Tannadice is in a residential area (Falkirk, Airdrie, ICT grounds are in the middle of fucking nowhere) is what keeps concerts happening, more so with Dens, parking has nothing to do with it as there is parking troubles on match day and that doesn't get the game stopped.
The emergence of Slessor Gardens and Camperdown being used as gig venues in Dundee has put an end to any need / possibility of Tannadice & Dense being needed to host events.

P.S. nothing against Elton John (his 70's stuff was excellent) but I've seen enough ponces at Tannadice to last me a lifetime.

Good suggestion, but many of the grounds mentioned either have artificial surfaces, and/or better access for heavy vehicles (for stage structures, lighting, bulky sound systems).
And was a music concert not blamed for the state of the Ullevi in 1987, as an aside?
