Going to be slightly controversial here....
I liked stevie c and he did seem to take lads in under his wing but that golden generation of youth - did they not all develop under Cathro with sc having the finishing touches? If he had been as good as it's made out surely it would be a conveyor belt of talent with 1 or 2 coming into the first team every season and we don't have that.
It's hard to know. Mind a youth coach/talent scout telling me the conveyor belt was broken before it slowed up. Cathro and Stevie C both deserve a lot of credit.
The best of the young players that turned out well certainly appreciated them both but attitude counts for a lot and good wages before proven spoils and maybe stunts some. They feel they've made it before they have peaked maybe.
When Campbell was at Dundee he brought through Dixon, Wilkie, Robertson, McDonald etc as soon as he left it all dried up. In that time we brought through Duff and Mckracken.
It's no coincidence. Another total fuck up, caused by our useless Chairman taking Jackies side over Stevies. Actually disgusts me.

We're losing a horrific amount of money, however way you dress it up....
We ran at a loss of 2.53m, minus 1m player sales and 400k was redundancies.
So the spin would be that if we didn't pay folk off it would only be about 1.13m
That's ok then, it's only 20k a week on average.

the main role for youth development is the scouting system coaches who work with 16_18 yr olds can only work with what they are given IMO SC was an average coach. If he was such a great loss why has he not been snapped up by another club

He set up his own Football School the day after he was given a large wedge to leave (a matter of months after getting a brand new contract) and keep quiet. Also got a job with Brechin that week. Did you miss that??
Do you think United are in a better position Youth-wise, without SC??

Steve Campbell soccer skills school. popular all over Tayside with kids. Average coach though

i'll stick by my opinion. Alll the sessions ive observed have been bog standard affairs as i said pretty average. Using the fact that he has a job at Brechin as evidence of his brilliance is hardly compelling evidence, surely if he was the man behind Gauld and souttar the english premiership would have been his destination. In saying that Stuart Armstrong has a lot of time for him. Im not trying to say he was clueless but he will be easily replaced. Cathro is a far bigger miss at tannadice.

I used the players he brought through as evidence that he must be doing something right. Was cathro at Dundee when he was bringing through all the players??
Although you obviously know better having witnessed his standard affair training sessions.

Tbf after what he was accused of a lot of bigger clubs won't go near him.

Thai thread has fairly changed direction!
I don't know what he was or was not accused of and whether or not it was true or not but united are responsible for the care of children and I for 1 would not want it to come out in 20 years time that x y and z happened which was inappropriate.
I was sad to see Campbell go - he's a v likeable character but if hes done/said something the club must deal with it.
Offline
They did deal with it, they gave him a large wedge of money to keep his pus shut, same as they have done with many others.

I think that's what I just said? The point of my post , to cut out all my waffle is the club must be seen to be proactive in their protection of children in their care. Whether or not there was a risk, I don't know. Why did they pay a wedge, I don't know.
Any ideas?

b&t.... answer your pms!
Here's my question: if Stevie was given money to stay quiet, how do fans know about it? He'd surely be in breach of his compromise severance agreement if he told people about it.

Loose lips sinks ships - wasn't his wife ready to 'expose all' before being told to pipe down?

Wasn't him that told me.
Surely the question should be, why do we keep paying employees hush money??

She probably wouldn't have had United not gave Campbell a big wedge to keep quiet. Same as they have done with plenty other s.

We're obviously not paying ex-employees enough hush money if they won't stay hushed.

Stevie Campbell: that's who has been discussed here the over the previous several posts.
Who else might it have been, I'm not aware of many ex employees getting 'hush money' (another name for a CSA)? I am aware that the club paid £408,000 in what they called redundancy payments in 2015-16 financial year, and reckoned that would include the McNamara management team, SC, Mixu and his mob, plus Muirhead.

As I said previously, SC never told me. There was a few mentioned they had been paid to stay quiet recently, Bilate (who was threatened with court action) and Gunning spring to mind.

They're contracts were paid up - as part of their early release they signed confidentiality clauses (as would have the club).
This is very standard and is not "being paid to be quiet"

I get it HH, I'm not saying he told you: someone did, and he told someone, which would be in breach of a CSA, if he indeed agreed one with United.
It's all water under the bridge anyway.
What is important is that if a group wants to organise a change, it has to look forward and set out aims which are easily accessible to the fans it wants to carry along. Accurate information detailing why change is needed: I think almost all United fans agree that Stephen Thompson has to be replaced, including maybe Stephen Thompson himself.
