I don't think John Hughes is the worst SPFL manager.
You could say he did ok at ICT on the back of Butcher/Malpas but then look what happened to Hibs & them, you couldn't make it up.
As we're discussing currently tho the model is knackered.
It's costing clubs an absolute fortune when money's scarce but nobody, but nobody, is saying stop the managerial merry-go-round I want to get off. Bring in the next poor soul...
Appointing one is like a toss of the coin where it's heads you lose, tails you lose.
If Hughes had come to Tannadice, who knows?
But I've got a fair idea...

Personally don't buy this whole 'Hughes would have kept us up' talk.
He'd have been managing the same squad of shite players.
Not only that but the malaise around the club, the unrest in the fans - it was more than just a bad season that relegated us. It was everything that happened since Feb 2015. If you find yourself relying on a january transfer window to get you out of the shite - you're going down. Its absolutely no coincidence that teams that are bottom at xmas go down.

Not sure about Hughes, but I'm sure that Tommy Wright would have kept us up. (as much as I hate the torn-faced cunt)

I doubt that Colin Stewart would have been involved in any negotiations for John Hughes, but it may be he was told ICT had said '£200,000 to just talk to us about our manager' in a chancing-their-arm-opening-gambit style. So he passed that on to supporters.
In answer to you Tangy, I would not have paid 200 pence to get Hughes to Tannadice. His 'success' at ICT is, as I'm sure others have pointed out on other threads, indicative of a well run club with a solid infrastructure, given their relative income from attendances.
What I'm trying to say is no one pays money to speak to a manager. You pay compo if agreements reached to move to yer club. Not to just talk which is what Colin said

Tommy Wright never had any intention of joining us. He used us to get a pay rise.

Aye b&t. Would have used the quote marks but have lazy fingers 😃
I wasn't part of any conversation, so can't tell how things were said etc but I would have thought that ict would have insisted on compensation being sorted prior to their manager talking to us. If he did and he fancied the job, then ict have no cards to play - a want away manager with 6 months of a contract left... I guess there was v little chat from their point of view.
So, either way, CS said this - do you think it's a lie? I'd have taken hughes btw - the change from sloppy Jackie to hard man mixu was too much for our molly cuddled players.... he's a bit more personable and would have got us more shree points 😃
200k for him too pricey for me tho

Agreeing compensation is not the same as having to pay 200k to speak to someone though.

Agree with pat - im still not really seeing the point ( and don't wish to be disrespectful after my new found friendship with Mr affshire).
If the club were told that by ict - then that's what they were told. They didn't go for it as it would have been a massive use of resources.
Don't see how it's an issue

What we are sayig is..
This puppet BELIEVES that ICT wanted 200k just to speak to hughes. Compensation was on top.

Bowers - so cs has been told something and believed it enough to tell you ladd. Not sure how that makes him a puppet. Tbh it looks like anybody who is any way affiliated with ST is branded either a puppet or a muppet.
I don't see why there's an attack on CS or even understand your reasoning for having a go. And no, I'm not a Thompson sympathiser, puppet or anything else (maybe a muppet!)

So, somebody within the club - presumably with much better chance of getting correct info than yourself told you something and you have some sort of outrage about it? I just don't get it.
The effort and questions were meant to help some people who had questions about the club get answers. Some of the answers were good, some were vague. There are more questions we all want answered and I will do my best to get them. I really hope I can build up a relationship with Colin and we can get more from him.
I wish the fed all the best with their aggressive stance and hounding of individuals - sure that's going to help your members no end

Outrage? No we laughed about it . We laughed because it's so preposterous and yet still he believed we had to pay money just to speak to Hughes. C'mon tangy surely even you can see its laughable.
Yer questions aren't an issue. If you want to build up a relationship with Colin that's up to you .
Aggressive stance? You know nothing . We had a full and frank meeting with Colin and David dorward last night. Lots talked about but hey ho.

And did you call him a puppet to his face? Good you met him though - let's hope it's constructive.
So - you and I don't know what was said between ict and united. I choose to listen to what an office bearer of the club says and you've rubbished him - each to their own, bud.

To answer a couple of questions in your Post 42. David Southern is employed as the General Manager of the Football Club, by the Board of Directors who make all the key decisions as regards the running of the Football Club. His job is merely to implement what the BoD want done. I'd suggest that is why he is not featured on the Website. Whilst he will sit in on Board Meetings, he is NOT on the Board, therefore, I'm sure he will have little or no clout on major financial issues, but he will undoubtedly be left to get on with day to day stuff, eg contracts, liaising with the football authorities, Council, logistics, other team's etc. His employment, is presumably coz the Chairman and/or the BoD neither have the nous or the time to do this task; or they think it is below them? But it's a job that needs done and it's a job that would need a decent skill set to do. It's ridiculous to try to equate whatever he is paid with whether we could get another player or not.
Colin Stewart is an Associate Director and whilst sitting in on the Board, he will not be making any major financial decisions either.
I'd have thought that re the Yogi situation (and he was one of the two Managers I'd have gone for post Sackie, Billy Davies being the other) he was contracted to ICT and they had just won the Scottish Cup. The figure quoted would have been the compensation figure ICT were looking for if Yogi walked out on his contract. Our Board obviously decided they could not afford that, so they could not speak to him. The BoD chose Mixup, the rest is history. Unfortunately, in backing their new Manager, the BoD probably paid that out in his choice of dud players that made no difference. We got relegated and budgets got slashed and we are where we are!
Recruitment Recruitment Recruitment as I keep saying!!! We've all backed the wrang horse in our lives. I thought I was marrying the right girl on Marriage number one, but it turned out she was a Pschotic Charlatan. I learned from my mistake and so far so good on Marriage number two, 17 years and counting!
I know it does not suit the angle some are coming at, but every decision is a sliding door that leads to a Y junction. The decision will come good immediately. Or it will come good in time (but whether you are allowed to or willing to give it the time is another matter). Or the decision will not work out. That my friend is life!!!
FKT x
Twat, RE Southern, CS should maybe include them on the webiste as to the normal supporter like myself all i see is a guy taking a wage in a position that did not exist till Snakey started fucking off to OZ every other week, now that nonsense has ceased we still have Mr southern. hence people asking WTF he does.
I never said CS would make financial descisions or even hinted at that? Dont know why you would write that to me ???
RE Yogi, yip COMPENSATION not TO SPEAK TO. Big difference that CS doesnt seem to understand. When has a club ever paid to SPEAK to a club ?? Incredible statement that he has said twice at FED meetings.
i have nothing to reply to your last two paragraphs. You seem to be rambing on a bit going completely off topic

its an issue cos this roaster who is a director at our club, day to inolvement in running a club and how a club operates does not know the fucking difference between speaking to a club and agreeing compenfuckingsation!

ST "Hello, is that Yogi?"
JH "Aye, and before you ask, I'm not interested"
ICT "That'll be 200k please"
200k will have been the compensation amount.
How much did we get from the SFA for Levein?
£200k WOULD have been the COMPENSATION amount yes! Colin has said TWICE it was to SPEAK to ICT !!!
How fucking diffuclut is that for people to understand ffs

It was bowers who called him a puppet on the post not B&T dean
Lets be honest here, have you in your whole entire life of following football ever, ever heard of a club having to pay money to talk to a manager?
