Agree we need to get boys in before its too late but as RM has said til he's blue in the face - Jan is a terrible window.
Normally its players who have been out of contract since summer (or before) or who have fallen out of favour and are on the move. Neither instances will mean they have match practice unfortunately so it really has to be the right signing. 

On a side note, where's this money coming from if we're skint? ST paying this out of his own personal cash hoard? 

See if January's such a pish window to buy in and we all know it is then why didn't we get all our business done in the summer?

As for the 'how dare we question things' crew, when is the right time to question things?  Once the doors are shut and the lights are out will be too soon for some.

We've went for 2 years now with folk saying "it's not the right time to question things". 2 years that has seen us go from cup finalists, challenging for the title (in the big league) to championship also rans fighting off Jim Duffys Morton for 2nd, all while pulling in millions in transfer fees, if that doesn't warrant questions being asked fuck knows what does.

Here I totally agree we should be doing the biz in the summer and RM did try I think for the best part but I don't think the signings have worked out the way RM had hoped. 
I think the 'winger' he was hoping to provide the width and pace was Tope and he's failed, thus far, to set the heather alight. 
Same with Cammy Smith. Not sure what's gone on there but he's back training at Aberdeen. If he wasn't impressing RM over Spittal in training then there's something up there. Maybe there was an attitude issue, who knows but either way, its no worked out. These instances mean we have to look around in Jan (because you cant sign players til then after the window closes)

Completely valid to question things but there's also reasons we're in this situation. You need to look at it from both sides. 

In an ideal world, all RMs signiings click and we pump everyone, but its not an ideal world.

It would seem we have bid 25k for a player who has already had a trial at Everton and a trial at Celtic blocked by his club.

Know what is annoying me, it's the fact we've knew we needed a winger, we should have had a list of 10 boys who could come in and do a job! We'll wait till the last day of the window and get a dud no doubt and we'll be out the title race by that time ! mon to fuck united

Is it not likely he's trying to establish a position of strength for negotiating for players?
I would say he identified some players but has missed out on them based on people assuming we are desperate to match hibs.
That leads to my next point, we are not hibs, we do not have their resources. People can't use that as a stick to beat united with. They were able to do their deals early as they had the cash to get their targets and a manager they could afford to pay more who has between contacts in the game than ours. This isn't a knock on ray, just another example that hibs could get a more experienced manager as they have a bigger pot.
Our options are, get in lower budget players at the start of the window or hold out until the end where we can maybe get a better quality player on loan.

It's disappointing at this moment but given the amount of people predicting we would 'do a st mirren' at the start of the season, it shows remarkable progress.
I'd rather we didn't gamble with the future of the club, there are no guarantees spending £300k will bring instant quality. The better option is to get in loans for a known quantity.
You can see the fine margins ray has to work within on this thread alone where £25k is seen as derisory but £100k is seen as 'piss your pants' material. That's a £75k difference for a player that is meant to fire is back into the prem. I don't envy ray at all.

How can 'the fellow supporters' card get played with a straight face when other posters are allowed to brand people as clueless and head in the sand types if they don't see Thompson as the devil incarnate. Bit inconsistent wouldn't you say.
GC2 made a valid point.
There would be a meltdown if we spent £100k on an unknown player from NI.
Every poor performance toshney has we are reminded about 3 times per thread he cost £50k

I get irritated by our position, but know it could have been far worse. I'd like to sign players but I don't know the financial constraints the club is working under. Fuck, I'd like to buy the club off of Thomson, but don't have money! I get exasperated when folk come up with figures for staff wages and bid amounts, for how could they know? But at the same time they may be accurate.
