January

Really will be make or break. Interested to see what others think we need and what we'll get. before it starts obviously we need a striker but who is out their that will come in Jan? as its a tough period to get players to make a difference,  does RM have to get rid/sell someone before he can bring in? hoping he gets money from the Andy Robertson deal and we can keep the squad together. just interested to see other arabs thoughts..

Re: January

Striker is an obvious miss, Ciftci on loan the obvious solution, money and willingness to step down the obvious problem.

Other area that we need is width, GMS again the obvious solution, with the same obvious problems.

If e could get one of these in, I'd happily let Cammy Smith go back to A'deen to free up some wages, don't get me wrong I rate the boy, but he's a central player and not gonna get Andreu's place and Fraser/Spittal/VDV even Telfer can all play that role too.  Would imagine that 1or 2 others would need to go too, but can't see that happening.

Reality is prob no changes at all.

Re: January

I'm really hoping either Andy Robertson,Johnny Russell,Ryan Gauld or John Souttar are sold in January.

The cut we would receive from either would finance the 2 players we need to win this league (3 if we're being greedy).

I still have a fear Norwich will receive a bid for Tony Andreu also, which would be a disaster.

Other than that can't see anyone leaving.Maybe Donaldson out on loan,or Matty Smith or the like.

Re: January

Or Noel Hunt....

Seriously tho, we can't rely on other teams players being sold, have to sort it ourselves.  Those deals should always be a bonus.

Hope your right tho.

Re: January

Would love Ciftci back but just don't feel any of those 2 are realistic Hope I'm wrong!! Agree too with Cammy Smith going back if it was to free a wage for 1 of them as can't see him playing in his preferred #10 role, and I think Fraser has been excellent on the right for us! GMS on the other side would just be scary for this league!

Scott Burns who is a well thought of Scottish newspaper writer has today tweeted that both Charlton and Peterborough will move in for Fraser? Don't think I'd like to see him go unless it's good money, I think Ray is really brining the best oot in the young lad.??

No i know,i know.

But by the law of averages is it not about effing time we profited from one of these 'sell-on clauses'.

Can't recall us ever profiting from one yet.

Re: January

When u think about it there's not many of the big transfers we've had where the players have gone on to big success. A Robs playing well but in a struggling team, JR is superb for Derby every time I see them but apart from that no-ones really succeeded.

Lesson must be money up front from now on.

Re: January

Just read by Scott Burns (Scottish Daily Express) that Charlton are after Fraser.

He's normally quite reliable regards Utd (despite the rag he writes for).

We must hold our nerve if derisory bids come in.Wouldn't even entertain a phonecall unless a bid was 500k minimum.

Re: January

Agree Tek at least! Feel we're just beginning to see the best of the young lad. When's he's confident and at it he really is a top top talent and thankfully for us we have seen that more this season! Knowing the board though any offer no doubt he'll be gone, unless Ray puts his foot down and demands to keep him unless u say Tek £500,000 bid comes in.

Re: January

Wouldn't even be talking unless it was double that. Can't put a price on promotion.

Re: January

No bid for Fraser should be entertained jn January if we are serious about promotion, if we sold him we'd never replace him like for like and he's hugely influential to our promotion effort.

Definitely would not send Cammy smith back to Aberdeen

Me neither. He'd end up at Hibs.

Too much commotion

Nail on head. We've been in a similar position before when we sold 1 or even 2 of our best players, and we all know how that ended up.

You honestly think that that will happen? Based on nothing more than gut feeling, it appears to me that Ray was given a budget and he's been told resolutely that that's his lot. If he wanted to spunk a large percentage of it on Toshney rather than a striker on a Bosman then that was his prerogative as he was given autonomy (again, gut feeling).

My opening gambit was based on nothing more than a wish.

And for the record, NO I don't think any of them will be sold.

Utd never get that lucky.

Re: January

I have it on very good information that Fraser wont be going anywhere, not in Jan at least! I suppose If a good bid comes in he might not have a choice mind you. I have been told though that Murray has asked to leave in Jan.

I was told (by someone on here) that he (Murray) was very close to going to Hibs on deadline day for just 5 figures. But the deal fell through at the last minute for some reason.Be interesting to see if Hibs come back in.

It would seem Mckinnon simply doesn't rate him.

Was told at the Partick Thistle game that Mckinnon does not rate him mate. If what im told is correct he asked for a new contract not that long ago but was told no? Also a rumour going about that Hibs will bid on Andreu in Jan but ive no idea how true that is.

Re: January

Hearing today at press conference that McKinnon made it clear that we won't loose Fraser in Jan but admitted it will be difficult to keep him come next season as there has been a number of clubs watching him (Scottish&English) and that Fraser is happy and enjoying his football here! Music to 'oor ears

Haven't seen or heard much on the Murray stories above, but wouldn't be all that fussed to loose him if we could bring in another striker, although no to Hibs and McKinnon isn't stupid enough to do that either.

Re: January

See if we got Ciftci back in January and held onto he rest of the squad and we were still within spitting distance of Hibs by then, I honestly think we'd go onto win the league, he'd score goals for fun in this league. Probably pie in the sky though.

Re: January

The thing about Ciftci, is his head goes down all too easy when things are not going his way and he tends to lose interest thats not too say he wouldn't do a job for us though IMO I think there must be better options out there on far less money.

Re: January

I know its a bit of an oddball suggestion but what about trying to sign Rory McAlister on loan til the end of the season. Ray tried to get him before so must think he's sufficient quality and he scored twice and played well enough against us in the IB cup to suggest he could do a job for us. On a loan deal he wouldn't have to give up his day job or his beloved Peterhead - not perfect for training with United team-mates but this could be a reasonable short-term and low cost solution to our lack of a big striker

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Why would Peterhead want to loan out their best player?
