I've enjoyed this group section, better than pre season friendlies in supporter interest and players work out.
So, the seeded teams for round two are:
Celtic
Aberdeen
Hearts
Hibs
The Rangers
Partick
Alloa
Morton
I think they are all guaranteed home times against:
Peterhead
St Johnstone
Inverness
Hamilton
Ayr
Motherwell
QotS
United/Dunfermline
By my sums:
A point puts us through on gd, even losing on pens would put us above Raith, East Fife and Dunfermline on gd and take the last place in the draw.
A win in 90 for the Pars would put Dunfermline through.
A win by 7+ goals will put us top but won't be enough to be seeded so doesn't really matter.

Yep, all we have to do is avoid defeat in 90 minutes to qualify. We all know what that means.
See ur point about it being better than pre season friendlies, yes of course it is, but for me it's dissapointing that one of only 2 national competitions we can win has been reduced to being seen as a replacement for friendlies. It should be seen as a cup not pre-season that for me is the downside to this new format.

I think the format has been great tbh.

I don't think anyone is belittling the cup in relation to friendlies, the opposite in fact.
I like the groups, like the pens after a draw, like it going down to the last game to see who has qualified.
Most of all I like that it will be finished before the Scottish Cup starts.
Very few countries have two cup competitions.

Seeded teams are not guaranteed a home tie, just guaranteed to meet a non seeded team.
So we could be at home to Alloa if we pick up a point tomorrow.

kick up the arse for players who don't look after themselves on the break.
This idea these days of being match fit does my nut in. Easing themselves back into training after eating shit and on the bevy.
Under JYM every training match was a match.
Killing off the friendlies and going competitive is the way forward.
If the media embrace this and promote the competition the crowds will swell. Clubs should include the games in ST books and improved image and base attendance might bring in more as the negative attitude is backed up by lower attendance due to all paying in.
I know its hard when getting in shape and building squads but fuck it, better to hit the ground running with something to challenge than playing pishy practice training friendlies against so called opposition with nothing to gain.

Those who diss this Cup the most will no doubt be the fans of teams papped oot.

Have to admit I don't like the set up. But on here at least I'm in the minority, which is fair enough, and of course, if United get to the semis I'll be full of enthusiasm.

I like the format, it's the way clubs are treating it as their pre-season that annoys me, it's not pre-season it is the season. It's not being taken that seriously by a lot of clubs. Prem league managers wanting 7 subs "cos that's what we'd do in normal friendlies", well organise some then and do that.
I take the point not many countries have 2 cups, TBH I don't think Scotland will in 10 years, cos the clubs are gonna kill this one off.

Vast improvement on the past few years but not perfect, yet.

I think it's been a good idea. Realistically, clubs like us should not have money to spend on foreign training camps etc. So this is the next best thing. But Scottish futba still has a fundamental problem in that our premier teams are out of condition when Europe starts. Something needs to change and for me it's nae futba January and February. Yes we canna say for sure when the worst of our winter will be, but on the balance of probabilities, that's it.
As followers of Scottish futba I think we are entitled to know more about this Brian McClair thing. What was he trying to implement and who was blocking it? Has Regan not lost Wotte and McClair now without either being able to implement their changes? If so, Regan should be out too!
A crowd of almost 5k for the Dunfermline game.
Competitive game + summer weather = attractive game.

Much better than shitey meaningless friendlies. No as good as trip abroad though
