I appreciate his effort as I do with all those who try, but wearing a Utd shirt ( on the park) isn't for life for anyone.

Move on, exactly.

He's over appreciated through being one of few who show a bit of the attitude we expect for the team we support.
Fae a squad so big to have so few with any sort of passion is sad.

Re: So far today

In fairness I think many are judging, correctly imo, Jonn Rankin's contribution over five years

Nothing wrong with people showing their appreciation for a players commitment and effort.

Enough cynicism in our game as it is don't you think

Re: So far today

I think the Rankin 'love-in' on Twitter isn't to do with anyone thinking we are losing Iniesta and is instead more of an appreciation for a player who gave 100% every single week and someone who showed a bit of pride in the badge and respect for the supporters paying his wages.

In a time when we've had players picking up the ball and walking off the pitch, sarcastically clapping the fans, giving the fans the vicky etc etc then Rankin has at the very least shown himself to be a consumate pro who has handled himself with the dignity and class you would expect from a senior player at Dundee Utd.

He has stuck-out a mile in this regard.

It's not his fault afterall that he was still getting a jersey week-in week-out when he's at least a couple of years past his best now (at least).

If every player had shown his levels of commitment Utd would have been in a much better place these past 18 months.

Re: So far today

The OP was more to do with guys wanting them all to stay and saying they should be kept on.  I prob didn't make that clear.

I don't mind Rankin getting best wishes on his way out the door, but why would anyone be upset at any of those named not being here next season.

No idea.

I would possibly (possibly) have kept Ofere for the Championship as i think he looks like he is a handful for defenders and could have done well in what is a physical league.

But i wouldn't lose any sleep over not seeing any of these players again.

The players we are reported to want to keep (Murray,Spittal,Fraser and Zwick) are the correct one's IMO.

Re: So far today

Offer might still be with us next season it's a fact of life that in lower leagues players are left dangling over summer months so clubs aren't paying players for downtime

Want to keep is debatable, mair contracted to be kept.
Agree that these players are better prospects but I'd be happier if we punted the lot of them and gave a new manager a starting point of his ain.

The guy has just been told he has lost his job, instead of spitting the dummy he has come out with a very classy and heartfelt statement. I am neither up nor down about him playing again for us, but for someone who always gave 100% I appreciated his efforts and won't shy away from saying that.

If the 'love in' is frightening you to much HH then maybe you need take a big deep breath and smell the flowers. There's bigger and more important things to be frightened about.

Re: So far today

So far since Monday, and for a wee while before that, what I've noted is the gradual falling out between fans, partly predictable given the events.

On here, it's not as vitriolic as on particular other forums, but it's equally unhelpful.

The vast majority of supporters were aware of a change in financial direction at United, although relegation has brought it abruptly to the fore. I don't know of any supporter who has the cash to buy Thompson out.

I'll repeat what I've suggested before, finance rules the decision making of the board, and it will take a concerted effort to alter the mind of the major shareholder, in terms of the cash he perhaps wants to get out.

This was the situation four years ago, when Thompson made a decision based on communications made with the club:

"Thompson has received "emails and letters in the hundreds" from fans opposed to a Rangers newco being admitted to the SPL and the chairman suspects the issue is already having an effect on season ticket sales."One or two are holding back, I've no doubt about that and that effects what I'm capable of doing with regard to bringing players in," he said."It's not just people who are 15, 16-years-old on message boards, I'm talking about people writing in who have been season ticket holders for 30 or 40 years with very, very strong feelings.

All we really want is clarity so that we can all move on."
