Strange game. Mind wasna on it the day. Canna really remember an affy lot about it, as my younger daughter is ill ATM and was going to hospital right after the game to see her.

1st half Dundee were the better team. Once again, we were hopeless in the air. There were far too many passes to no one.

Their 1st goal might've been prevented if we'd stopped the cross coming in from near the corner (think it was Donaldson there), but the main protagonists were Gunning and Morris who were either side of Hemmings in the box. Then they both ran forward away from Hemmings him leaving him on his todd, so the ba goes straight to him, and has a shot under Kawashima for the goal. Gunning tries to clear but because he's so far away from the goal-line, he canna get to it in time.

Their 2nd goal the majority of folk in the GF thought Stewart was offside. The lino didna half take pelters for it, including 1 from Dixon that McLean booked him for. No sure if he was offside or no TBH, but it was close.

2nd half we were the better team. Things certainly changed when they went down to 10 after we scored from the penalty. But we didna take enough advantage of them going down to 10. There were times when you didna think Dundee were playin with 10 men. Our build-ups to their box well for me anyway too slow in nature. This gave Dundee plenty time to get enough behind the ba esp. in the box. Even when we got around their box, there seemed to be a lot of pusyfootin aboot, and not for the 1st time this Season, I was left wondering if anyone's willing to take a shot. Of coorse it wasna helped by the fact that the slow build-ups to their box to begin with, let Dundee have plenty men back there to block all the attempts, passes, thru balls.

When we had them pinned in their own half for large parts of the 2nd half, I knew we were onto something. Play improved when Fraser came on, and even moreso when Murraymints came on. Knew he would trouble their back line.

Gunning and Donaldson lost us possession due to no payin attention, and p1sh passes. Mind oe atleast one occasion in the 2nd half when it coulda been deadly. A sloppy couple oe passes between Gunning and Donaldson went badly wrong, and we lost the ba, with not one United player between the Dundee player and the box. This was indirectly as a result of the 3 at the back. And WTF is all this slipping and falling on the pitch aboot. Dixon and McKay esp. and 1 or 2 others. Dinna tell me they're gonna blame it on the sprinklers being on before the game.

Stewart shoulda been off. Right on front of me. Coming together with Dixon. Dixon's on the ground, and Stewart stands on him. Chunt. Ref misses that, and so does the Lino. Hard to believe the officials are getting paid for this. There was even a comment from the copper who was standing beside me. Even Kawashima came over to Dixon. Hope the Linesman is giving his wages to charity this week.

All the same. It's a valuable point I wasna expecting to get when the half-time whistle went. BTW it's no often I'll slag off people directly but the Dundee fans seem immensely bitter. My missus even commented on it in the hospital this afternoon, saying that she heard some oe them comparing their enjoyment to our predicament, with the downfall oe the Nazis. It's phuckin pathetic.

A pretty great analysis Bill.

But never mind Utd and all that shite for the moment.

Hope your wee yin is back fighting fit ASAP Chief.

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

Some really good points in here.

TheShed nails it for me, three at the back is not the problem - it is THE three at the back who are playing that is the problem, saying that Mixu and Gordon should be big enough to say "it's not working, let's change it". Stubbornness verging on arrogance seems to be a trait with United managers.

If he's not going to change it he must acknowledge that Gunning, Morris and Dixon are useless. I don't think Rankin is good enough for centre midfield anymore but would have him at left wing back.  Would like to see Knoyle at right wing back, I guess that leves Durnan, Dillon and Donaldson as my centre halves.

Agree with Beharders point too, I grew up in a Hulltoon tenement in the 80's with a few BNB's and their life revolves around United, the first score they wanted to know was the United one, if United lost all was well - if Dundee won it was a bonus.

I'd really contemplate playing guy demel centre half, I would imagine he reads the game excellently

Aye, this is one I can't understand. When Demel signed he announced he was here to play in midfield, which I found odd. I'm sure he'd have a better positional sense for central defence that those there just now.

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

Unfortunately, it looks like Mixu won't change his mind on a back three, and that will continue to limit our chances, in my humble opinion.

Apart from winning and scoring the penalty that changed the game and putting his head in where it hurts to score the equalizer. Not to mention being in the right place at the right time to score the winner at Ross County.

What has Billy McKay ever done for us

I've got to agree with Mario on this one. I think he's brutal and offers very little to the team yet some how scored a few last min goals.

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

Can you not see the irony there then? A striker who scores goals? (12 in 22 btw)

If you remember Henrik Larsson, he was anonymous for long periods then popped up with vital goals. Not comparing their ability before anyone starts!

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

If Mckay was a good all round player and a goalscorer he would not be any where near Tannadice. Every player at SPL level has major deficiencies in their game

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

I totally understand where folk are coming from, but from what I remember when he was at Inverness he was ALWAYS on the last man shoulder running in behind! I presume it's a confidence thing just like Dixon, but if we are been honest here out of his 12 goals 6 have been pens, Prettty disappointing especially with the reputation he came with! May I also add I feel mixu is telling him to do other stuff and it's actually hindering his performances also doesn't help when all your centre halfs do is punt the ball up to you at every opportunity

You can say that but look at the amount of chances he has missed should be into the 20 with the chances he's had

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

Mckay went through a spell in December where he was missing chances galore one on one.

He should play alongside Ofere who can play the Jon Daly role decently well.

I'll support any player 100% who pulls on the United Jersey regardless of who it is.

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

McKay is a frustrating player at times. Looks like he's sometimes offering very little in a match.

But there's no-one else in the team who is as deadly in the penalty box as him.

For that reason alone it's hard not to justify him starting week in week out.

I'd like to see him upfront with Ofere with three players like (Spittal,Fraser and Dow playing behind).

Play a 3-2-3-2.(if Mixu insists on 3 at the back.. which he seemingly does).

Re: Terrible terrible terrible!

Flat 442 would surely suit us? The right hand side picks itself with Spittal and Knoyle as does the midfield two of with two of Demel/Paton/Rankin. Four different options in regards to our strikers - but I like Ofere/McKay the most. Anier/Murray is a decent back up.

Eiji; Knoyle, Donaldson, Durnan, Rankin; Spittal, Demel, Paton, Fraser, Ofere, McKay - is what I'd play for St Johnstone. Two absolute units in Ofere/Demel as well as Donaldson and Paton who are hard cunts. Would rather play Jamie Robson but that'll never happen

agree with a lot of that however Donaldson is no hard man his tackle on Stewart near the end was a shameful effort. id have Gunning in before him.

His Jon Daly style header set up the equaliser.
Inverness fans thought his control looked shady too but his goal to game ratio was
good then.
Don't think he looks great but gives us a more direct option than pissing about trying to pass the ball all the way through teams parking the bus.
It's going to get harder to score as teams will sit in and try not to loose against us more than beat us whilst we are playing catch up.

Good post and agree 100% Mr Phobia.

Was far too much tippy-tappy pish in and around and upto Dundee's penalty box on Sunday.

Get some fucking decent crosses into the box and as often as possible and i'm confident McKay and big Eddie can get some goals as a partnership.
