Pat its my belief that the non stop 24hr media makes it feel worse nowadays. corruptipn is far more likely to be unearthed. its always gone septic had a miraculous escape from relegation in the late 40s and when hampden got its kiddy on make over in the 90s the gfa refused to even discuss moving the national stadium to a more central location there are many more examples but im getting a bit tired

You're correct Beharder it's always been corrupt and 24/7 news coverage and everything being analysed to death these days probably does make the corruption we have all witnessed in recent years feel all the more palpable.
But my enjoyment of football isn't what it was on a regular basis i would say, compared to it was in say the 80/90's and even the noughties (as shite as they were for Utd,no Cup wins and only one Final).
This isn't just solely to do with Utd or Scottish football btw.I used to really enjoy watching European games when the odd one would be on the telly. The early days of the Champions League even were enjoyable.I used to watch many a game with my Dad and brothers or mates and get a few beers. These days i couldn't care less.Even if a games on cooncil telly i don't feel the urge to watch it tbh. It's all played out.
Television hasn't killed football.Too much football on television has. That and SKY etc dictating kick off times and the money being thrown at the top clubs and leagues ensuring that a Dundee Utd,Aberdeen,Gthenburg or Mechelen will never see the light of day again in a European sense.
Anyway...i digress.
Mon the Terrors the morra and FTD (always).

In term of enjoyment I was like a pig in shit pretty much from when Craig Levien took over in 2006 right up to when we sold Francie and Josie when we took a nosedive. We've had a good run and we will again at some point. If we go down so be it, it'll be shit but we'll cope. Personally though, I'd rather stay up and rebuild with a bigger budget than what we'd have to do it with in the Championship. Until it's impossible to stay up that's surely what we need to aim for? Also, still being in the fight in the league is bound to give us confidence for the cup game(s) as well.

It's probably not the place to discuss this here, maybe at some point I'll put something into the Lesser Teams section of TT, but the (main stream) media failing to report corruption is one of the main issues: I am of an opposite view to you totally on your assertion that they uncover chicanery.
However, Celtic's escape from relegation in the late forties is a myth, have a look at the sequence of their results in that era (I'm assuming you are thinking of the 47-8 season). The National Stadium situation was a mixture of Thatcher's policies and the power of one club's veto. That is not to say Celtic have and still benefit from the decisions of our football authorities.
To finish, of course I'm hoping for a United win, and have been one of the few I can recall on here who has thought for months that we not only can, but will, survive relegation. Nonetheless, maybe it's because I'm getting old, but I don't have the same energy for the matches these days.

Bizarre that we're all feelin "doon in the dumps" just noo. I thought it was just me. Wife says "Ye've been goin aboot we yer pus trippin ye fir weeks".
While I totally agree with the state of Scottish futba ATM, the corruption of officials and the 'money laundering' between the biggest clubs and the TV big boys (and it's certainly no just Scottish futba), I honestly think the way we're ah feelin, has got more to do we the position we find ourselves in ATM.

In relation to what LAO said previously, and I can only speak for myself, I certainly don't fear playing Hibs and the day I fear Dundee is the day I give up on life.
There is no fear with Sevco either, it's the shite that accompanies them and the other cheek that I can't be arsed with, it's bad enough now but when they come up and the Celtic support galvanise it's going to be unbearable online, in print, on telly and on the radio.
Coupled with that fanny Strachan killing the National team that actually has a decent pool of players for the first time in ages I'm just fucked off.
I think it's great that so many different teams have won the cups in Scotland in the last 7-8 years but for some reason I'm just fed up with our game.
