We are in mid March now and over the course of this horrific season and 3 Managers in charge i don't think anyone's put their finger on this equation.
So ...what in your opinion IS the starting 11 players and formation we should adopt from the Dundee Derby onwards?

Dunno if I would include Psycho as a Manager in charge, as Partick away was one of our worst performances of the season (and that's saying something). Anyway, onto answering the OP and what we must not do is play a back 3 against a front 3. Draws are no use, as we need 20 points, so the best form of defence is attack so 4-4-3 for me and if it means getting the ball forward quicker, so be it. Needs must! Why we never play a system that allows balls into the channels between full backs and centre backs is one of life's great mysteries to me, as it causes havoc and mayhem. This team would do that.
Kawa/Zwick
Knoyle - Donaldson - Durnan - Dixon (and FFS dinna show Stewart inside)
Spittal - Paton - Rankin
Murray - McKay - Anier
But I would love for someone to tell me what's the jackanory with Robbie Muirhead? Since he gave ArabZONE an interview he's never been seen again!
PS Anyone that saw my original, I had Morris in, as I was so intent in having GG nowhere near the team I forgot about Donaldson!!!

Playing without a keeper is taking the attack option a bit far?

Very difficult to pick a best formation due to the complete lack of width in the squad. The formation mixus playing I can understand because of this but he's far too defensive the way he sets the formation out. There's only ever a max of 3 real attacking options plus 2 wing backs, 1 of whom had been dreadful and the other should be getting utilised further forward.
For me there are certain players that aren't trying a leg and then there's some who just aren't good enough, some are in both categories.
If I Was picking the team until the end of the season it would be
Kawa
Knoyle. Donaldson. Durnan. Dillon
Paton
Spittal. Rankin
Anier
Ofere. Muirhead
Subs
McGovern
Fraser
Murray
Demel
Souttar
Robson
+ 1 other from Dev squad
Basically the plan would be get it forward quick and get bodies in the box, maybe a bit basic but that's the squad we have and needs must.

You've picked 11 outfield players Fooky.

OK I see my 4/4/3 typo now. I must pay more attention and proof read everything. I was too busy focusing on counting the actual 433 line up I provided, which I would stick with as regards whatever keeper of those two is fit and my tactics which are similar to The Shed, that being the actual object of your post. Lesson learned though. Must do better

Nine days ago few folk would have Anier anywhere near the squad, now he's a favourite!
I couldn't begin to guess as to our best 11 or formation, but Gunning wouldn't be there (the only one of Mixu's signings who has kept fit, too), and Spittal is wasted on the right. However, given the imbalance in our squad, he probably has to be placed there.

If we play 3-5-2 I'd have:
GK: Kawashima
RCB: Donaldson
CB: Morris
LCB: Gunning
RWB: Spittal
DCM: Paton
DCM: Demel
AM: Dow/Fraser
LWB: Rankin
CF: Anier/Murray
CF: McKay/Ofere
Personally, I'd like us to give this 4-4-2 (and none of this diamond pish either) a bash though:
GK: Kawashima
RB: Knoyle/Dillon
CH: Donaldson/Morris
CH: Gunning
LB: Dixon
RM: Spittal
CM: Paton
CM: Rankin/Demel
LM: Erskine/Dow
CF: Ofere/Anier
CF: McKay/Murray

I'm very much thinking like Pat, I don't have an f'n clue what our best team is, and as for formation I would love to go 4-4-2 like Lao says, but it's not going to happen.
We're stuck with what we've got so based on what I've seen recently I would go:
Kawa
Durnan
Donaldson
Morris
Spittal
Demel
Fraser
Paton
Rankin
Ofere
Anier
Zwick, Knoyle, Dillon, FSP, Dow, Erskine, Murray
I don't want to see Dixon, Gunning or McKay in the first team unless injuries dictate differently.

Tek has answered for me. I knew it was an oversight and it was a tad silly of me to pick you up on it. Apologies Fooks.

LOL RAM I was looking at my 433 names going........"what the fuck are you on about, I've got 2 goalies down and you're saying I've none!!!???" No offence taken. I was word blind to my 443. Never even looked at that bit!
