RIP Sir George Martin

Passes away aged 90.

For a Beatles Trainspotter like myself, today is tinged in sadness.

Another key figure (perhaps THE key figure) in the remarkable story of The Beatles exits stage left.

A truly exceptional Producer+sound engineer. Helped merge the Beatles rock/pop sound with his classical music background to create something truly extraordinary and revolutionary.

I will add to this thread more later on tonight.

Re: RIP Sir George Martin

Said before I was more of a Lennon than a Beatles fan, and thus wasn't up on the influence Martin had on the group. Interesting to watch some tributes there, will catch the BBC 4 stuff at a later point.

Certainly a key figure in the formative years, and innovative. Yet Lennon didn't treat him well, as was the case with many important figures in his life.

Re: RIP Sir George Martin

This didnt make the news in the States but I was shocked to read his obituary in the (hotel complimentary copy) Wall Street Journal.

I fidn't realise how many tracks he played many different instruments on.

A real musical genius and probably the glue that held the Beatles together for so long.
