Not so sure, Scarpia. India will overtake the Chinese population soon, yet they are a far distance off being a football power.

China will probably qualify for future WC Finals, and possibly host them by 2026 or 2030. Cannae see them being a potential top power.

To me, it's not really about 'countries' it's the rich companies which rule the world. However, depending on how you measure it, the World's Richest Countries by GDP in 2015 were China, followed by USA, followed by India. This from IMF statistics.

Re: Chinese fitba

The Chinese government are buying these players for the league.

Didn't realise India were 3rd wealthiest economy. Shocked at that.

Re: Chinese fitba

There's a lot of very rich Indians willing to splash serious cash, that part of the world could become a serious player in the game. Indias very much a cricket nation though so not sure it would get enough support. China certainly could become big, but how long can the govt pay for it?

UEFA or the big European clubs will try and counter it by rushing through a closed shop super league leaving the rest of us to pick up the scraps, actually we'd prob end up with a British league.

Re: Chinese fitba

Can't see it happening. A lot of players (no matter how much cash) might not fancy living there. Filthy country pollution wise. Got a friend here who lived there previously and said it was a nightmare.  Kids staying in houses all day as it was too polluted to go to a park etc. looking back at the McGowan deal and I reckon the fact he lived there before and got on ok probably rose his stock a lot higher than it would've been.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Chinese fitba

Not a flash in the pan, but not the next big thing either.

Cant see the blinkers being taken off about the 'Greatest League in the World the EPL' (trademark and copyright)

What shocks me most (though with the idiots in our government it shouldn't) is that they benefit from our foreign aid policy. They have their own space programme yet we hand millions over to them each year.  Meanwhile, our NHS, etc, is in dire need of cash......

Re: Chinese fitba

Like I said earlier, it depends how 'richness' is measured. India has the third highest Gross Domestic Product right enough, but when measured per person or per capita, it is 124th in the world.

Leedsy is right that they have a space programme, and of course they have large swathes of very rich areas in the country, and many more millionaires than the UK. India is powerful, yet it also has huge depths of poverty.

However, it's not (and only my opinion) because of the poverty and sympathy that we send millions of pounds to India: we want to keep that nation as allies of the UK, in a potentially volatile part of the world. That's not to say it's right that aid is sent there by the barrow load.
