Thompson

Well a window slams shut and its a slap in the face to the fans once again.
We have sold 2 players in John Souttar and Ryan McGowan (still not confirmed) and replaced one of them with a young lad from West ham with no experiance at all.
Throughout the window we have been linked with players from Holt to Hunt to Stokes to some beefcake Romanian defender who we had on trial for a week. We have signed none of them. Did we bid for Stokes knowing he wouldnt come? We never followed up on Holt, Was Hunt ever really a target? Or was it all  case of we tried and failed to bring someone in.
As has been said in recent weeks the club are loosing money at an alarming rate. Things are not good thats for sure.

I think its about time Thompson came out and told the fans where we are sitting financially.

The white flag has been held aloft from the club.

Re: Thompson

Just wrote on the transfer thread,

The whole Windows been about getting the wage bill down and whatever money in we can, tells u where we are financially to me.

Then again maybe Mixu has faith in the threadbare squad that's left to get us out of this mess, maybe Thomson believes so much in Mixus coaching that he can make it happen.

I'd like to believe the second one, but I'm convinced it's the first.

Re: Thompson

We had better not be in the financial sh!t !! If Thompson and Southern cant keep the boat afloat after flogging Gauld, Armo, Robertson, Ciftci and McGowan then they are not fit to hold down positions at Tannadice.

Re: Thompson

Does anyone just think that he's not that good and got lucky that Levein basically put in the infrastructure for success.
We seem happy enough to accept that was the case with McNamara.
Once Levein left it would take a few years to see the effects.
I think that's what has happened. We are showing we can't develop the youth players as well to replace the ones sold.
I think the job is too big for Thompson and he doesn't know much about football.

This was what I was getting at a few months back with my director of football post

He looked good for a while, but it was exactly because he was riding on the back of Levien's work, that faded and he's been found out big time.

Time for change.

I don't know how we change it as there aren't that many buyers out there.
One option is to get rid of him and southern who also knows hee haw about football by the look of it and replace them with Justine and a DOF.
I think that would be the easiest to implement but not sure if the fans want completely rid of the thompsons

Re: Thompson

For me, Justine has brought nothing to the club, neither has Southern.

Personally want them all gone, it might not be possible, but 2/3 years back there was 1 guy who I'm led to believe approached Thomson to buy the club (perhaps unofficially if u like) and he's still around (no idea if he's still interested).  Whether Thomson would accept the going rate or not is another question.

Somethings got to happen tho.

Re: Thompson

I'm not a Justine fan either. She only popped back when the transfer fees started rolling in. No interest at all before that.
I just struggle to think of anyone else coming in.
I'd heard that Thompson wanted £2M for the club. Obviously he'd have to drop that if we are in the championship, which looks the likely destination.

Re: Thompson

£2m?  I expect he would want three or four times that.

The ground, Gussie, little debt, top 4 realistic potential, big fan base etc.

I thought we made £1m from winning the cup in 2010, surely it would take more than £2m to buy us, even on our knees?

Re: Thompson

Was an interest in buying recently from an American.  I believe that Thompson/Mitchell wanted 2 million each before they would sell. Boy said nae chance.

Fwiw I believe the club had to sell someone. As of yet McGowans still not signed on the dotted line for the Chinese club so he's agreed to sell to hearts to get some much needed cash into the club

The £2m each I think is just wrong.

ST holds 51,139 shares
JT holds 33,262 shares

Regardless of what is thought of the Thompsons I don't think they'd ask someone to pay £39.12 per share to ST and £60.13 per share to JT....

Which is not to say there hasn't been an approach - just not that specific response to it.

Re: Thompson

(Lack of) communication from the club, and Thompson's handling of our affairs are sickening the fans, but, and this is a personal opinion, until we have no further interest in the Cup, and cannot rescue ourselves in the league, it would be supportive of the players if we could leave all the negative stuff on the back burner.

I'll be like many of us, searching for good news on these sites and in news outlets every other spare minute.

By all means give the club and the custodians both barrels if and when we have no chance of survival.

As I said, this is a personal view.

Well said - whatever fuck ups there have been there is still a chance to stay up, there is still a chance of a cup run so let's get behind the team and (you never know) have a great end to the season.

Re: Thompson

Pat,scarpia totally agree with that. There can't be many Utd supporters who were not dissapointed to see no inward activity yesterday. However any negativity towards ST can only be detrimental to the team. Let's leave all the I told yo so and personal abuse to the end of the season.

Certainly a personal view held by many others, unfortunately not so vociferous as the doom and gloomers.

Re: Thompson

Just because people have negative views on ST or the lack of inward transfer activity doesn't mean they're not supportive of the team.  Pisses me right off when folk say that, mainly cos it's bollocks.

Re: Thompson

By nothing more than coinfidence, I ran into ST a few weeks ago. During our very brief conversation, when I asked him "Do you know the supporters aren't happy", he said "I know".

You forgot to mention that he couldn't give a shit about that fact either, its all about him raking in as much of his dad's money as possible.
