Any chance of this game being off? The weather forecast is cold with rain and perhaps snow over the next few days, and Firhill has notoriously bad drainage.
If on, I'm nervous about the central defence. Although Dillon and Durnan were fine last weekend, Gunning toiled against Macgennis, and it might be too much to hope for solid performances from these three again.

Kris Doolan will run riot against Gunning,

Doesnt sound too promising then if the weather changes.

What team would everyone go for?As Mixu seems to have his heart set on a back 3 i would go for (injury permitting) basically the team that started the match but Durnan (who i thought had a good game) for Donaldson.
................Kawashima..............
Dillon...........Durnan........Gunning
Spittal...Demel.....Paton....Rankin
......Dow......Murray....McKay...
Subs -
Zwick
Anier
Donaldson
Souttar
Fraser
Riski
Muirhead
I think it'll be a score draw.Which would be ok as long as one of Hamilton or Kilmarnock lose.

If Donaldsons fit, then I'd play him instead of Gunning, who even last week looked poor.
Other than that there's no need to change it.
Draw isn't enough IMO and we have to attack from the off.
What worries me is an away game with a very big travelling support doesn't normally work out well for us.

Ristu Riski out tomorrow for definite with a groin injury.
Get the feeling he's gonna be a lame duck. Hope I'm very wrong obvs.

Riski looked to have a bit of a football brain in his short appearance at Airdrie. He was looking for balls into space that the others didn't spot, maybe offers something different. In that game, although folk raved about young Fraser, I felt he was overplaying the ball too much.
Somebody like Riski maybe needs faster delivery from brighter players, or maybe I'm writing shite.

Cup final 2. Same team as last week.
This'll go down a treat but I'd keep Gunning in the middle of the back three.
I thought he did ok last week and looked a lot more comfortable there - tbh when he screws the nut he is a very good defender.
For those who pointed out that he had his problems with Josh Magennis, the big fella is a handful for most defenders and, in any case, how do you think Dillon or Durnan would have fared against him

Agreed, until a lapse in concentration for there goal! Tbh they offered absolutely nothing

Don't disagree with that but I guess that all of or current defenders have a lapse (or two) in them.
I don't think we have the personnel for a flat back four and to me Gunning looks happier (mind you always has a smile ) as the spare man and Dillon/Durnan are certainly not the players for that position - Donaldson, maybe, in time but not now.
One thing that struck me on Saturday was that we didn't have players looking like "what the fuck am I meant to do here" - yes I think we'll still concede soft goals - as long as we cut down how many and make sure we get at least two ourselves.

Actually agree with you mate. Eh thought he fared well enough against Magennis, Magennis is always going to win a fair amount of headers against any defender. Similar to what Daly done for us for years under Levein and Houston.
Thought Gunnings biggest problem on Saturday was a few breakdowns in communication when passing out to paton /demel. Mind a few occasions where Killie almost broke away after a few loose passes between the three. Though eh put it down to having not played together before.

In some ways the bench gets more interesting - the starting line-up pretty well picks itself (injuries depending) after saturday.
For instance Dow looked good (given his long lay off) but if we're gonna play one behind the two forwards you need cover if Dow is injured or not performing - we're woefully short on players who would fit in that role (especially now Telfer is loaned out) - so, before I take my tin hat off and retire for the night - should there be room for Bodul on the bench?
Granted he went AWOL on the pitch earlier in the season but he's probably the only other player we have who (potentially) could play there - from the little he did show looks like he could play decent passes through from there if he showed some effort and application as well.

A wee bit surprised that Gunning is getting such supportive comment here, so here's hoping it's just me who is nervous about his potential contributions.

I thought last weeks win papered over some pretty glaring cracks in his performance too tbh.
Positionally he just seems all over the place these days.
I can only hope the more he plays he'll hit some kind of form.

He's always been like that positionally. He's way overrated.
The 1 player at the club who could play at the middle of a back 3 is Souttar, mainly because your central 1 should be free more and have time to dictate the play from there. Whether it's the time to do that is another question! But it wouldn't be any worse.

Any word on the weather or the game being off? Haven't seen anything in twitter which normally bodes well.
Haven't seen anything myself and looking at the weather forecast it doesn't look as though it's due to be as bad in Glasgow as it is here (wee winter wonderland outside and just started snowing heavy again)
