League Reconstruction

Back on the agenda (sort of) at the SPFL tomorrow.

Havent seen much discussion of it on here (of late anyway) and wondered what others thought.

Helpful wee article on some possible options with pros and cons from STV linked below

Re: League Reconstruction

I'd be happy to find a way to see us play the same teams less, tbf the team have done that for us this season, at least for a year.  But seriously a bigger league with say 18 teams would be my choice, I realise this brings the meaningless games argument in, but IMO most league games in normal seasons are meaningless anyway.

The bigger regionalised league cup brings the number of games back up, so keeps income coming in.

Below the top league I reckon it should be 2 leagues of 14 of equal stature north/east and south/west, with 2 up from each league and 4 down from the top league.  No way that clubs will vote for this though.  Also 1 team down from each of these leagues with a full pyramid system below.

Btw no way any changes should happen next season, you should always start a league season knowing what the results you get mean.

Re: League Reconstruction

A bigger league with different away venues to visit once a season would be welcomed by me, but that matters not a toss to the tv companies.

But I'd hope league changes aren't being proposed to benefit an Ibrox club which may be going into administration, and that at the lower levels reserve teams aren't forced upon supporters of the Forfars, Stranraers and Stenhousemuirs.

Wouldn't agree with reserve teams playing against 1st teams.

Actually passed caring why they're making changes Pat, as long as they improve things.  But get ur point.

As for the tv companies, I'd be delighted if there was no live tv deal and all games kicked off at sat 3pm. I'm sure crowds would go up and maybe not quite cover, but certainly almost cover the lost tv money, particularly if we were treated equally as other citizens and allowed a beer at the games.

Re: League Reconstruction

I'm like a broken record on this but strongly believe league reconstruction without the switch to summer football is just change for changes sake.

FWIW I think the current Premiership set up is as good as it could be, I like the split, and if you finish too half you might only see the dross (i.e us this year) once at home.

If it does get pushed to 16/18 I think two regional leagues below the top flight with champion of each coming up to replace bottom two in Premiership then play-offs between second, third and fourth in both leagues and third and fourth bottom of Premiership (8 team play off) for last two places would be exciting.

As others have said, no way incumbent clubs would vote for potentially four relegation places each year but it would shake it up.

I think it's mental that part time clubs like Elgin and Montrose need to travel to Berwick and Annan in league 2, likewise Peterhead to Stranraer in league 1.

Re: League Reconstruction

Change is needed but i think its major changes not just puttimg 2 more clubs into the top league.
