Chinese team want McGowan

Henan Jianye FC (nope me neither).

But Stephen Thompson saying he is unwilling to sell him unless Mixu could get two International players in for the fee.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

STEPHEN THOMPSON insists Mixu Paatelainen is the man to drag Dundee United back from the depths of despair – even if they go down this season.

The Tannadice chairman gave the Finn his 100 per cent backing in an exclusive Record Sport interview yesterday and is ready to fund up to three new signings in a bid to avoid the drop.

And he is ready to block a move from Chinese outfit Henan Jianye for Australian star Ryan McGowan.Contact has been made by the Chinese Super League club but Thompson is in no rush to sell the defender. He said: “We don’t want to lose anyone like that.“Where we are at the moment, it just wouldn’t help our cause unless Mixu said ‘it’s great money – give it to me and I’ll bring you two top-class international central defenders’.“And Ryan is a top-class international defender, don’t forget. We don’t want anybody of his calibre going anywhere in this window.”

Paatelainen has won just one of 12 matches since replacing Jackie McNamara in October.United are now 11 points adrift of second-bottom Kilmarnock in the Premiership but Thompson is adamant his club will do everything in its power to stay up.And he made it clear that Paatelainen was in for the long haul. He said: “Mixu is absolutely the right man for this job.“He is very professional, a very good coach and is 100 per cent committed.“You can see the level of player he has brought in. Eiji Kawashima has played in two World Cups.“Guy Demel got sent off at the weekend but you can see he has experience, has performed at a high level and can play. The contacts are there. Mixu can source players and if we do our homework properly, we can bring them in.“It’s a tough job, but Mixu knew he was taking on a tough job.

“We are not happy with where we are. We are certainly feeling it. I didn’t get to sleep for hours last night – I can’t sleep for thinking about the situation.“But we are going to fight to stay in this league. We are trying to get two or three players in this month and wouldn’t be doing that if we didn’t think we can stay up.“We are doing everything we can to support Mixu – four players are in already and another two or three will hopefully join them to give ourselves a chance.”

Sounds to me like he was definitely leaving the door open to the move.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

I'd take the money, we're not staying up anyway, it's all about making sure we bounce straight back now.  Bringing players in now will change nothing in regards to this season.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

that'll be him away, last half hour of the window, then.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

If Mixu could get in 2 proven spl quality cb's for him it's a no brainier.
Cb's are a much more important position than full backs.

I doubt he has identified any though.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

When's his contract up ? Does the season not start in April ? If that's the case he will see it out and go at end of contract

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

If we get offered around 100k I'd take it. McGowan is pretty average.

Yeah yeah Industrial Estate

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

Think the Chinese season starts in March so they'll be looking for him to start pre season Asap I would have thought.

Team finished 5th last year, top 3 go into Champions League.

I'm not a massive fan of him tbh, says all the right things and charges into a tackle now and again but if we're getting offered decent kelly that would pay for a centre half and a replacement right back I'd be happy.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

Rumours going around that 2 Chinese teams bidding for him.
One of the bids accepted.
Could this lead to the 2 CB's baldemort was talking about or are we away to find out that the preparation for relegation is underway.

Couple of posts on Twitter, then I checked a couple of United forums.
East football has it on that.
Nothing too concrete but still....

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

I would sell him if we get anything for him. He's been bang average (and that's being kind).

Play Demel Right Back where he played for West Ham.

Sign a right sided Centre Half who can actually head the ball/organise a defence.

Missed a trick not signing Darren O'Dea tbh.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

Id put Demel in Midfield hes solid and holds ball up well good with the  ball at his feet what we need in there.

See you later Ryan thought you would have done better if im honest.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

No danger would i put Demel at Right Back. He's 34 now. Isnt a player to bomb up & down the park.
Plus he oozes class in the middle of the park.

I like mcgowan, put a belter of a tackle in early doors on Friday, sent the boy flying.

We don't need a RB to bomb up and down the wing if we ditch this 3 at the back nonsense.

Just put him there and tell him to stop crosses coming in which about 60/70% of the goals we concede come from.

Let whoever's playing RM get forward and let's get back to basics and be hard to beat.

He's had an easy time of it for this very reason.  Him and Taggart Aussie Internationalists tae???   WTF!!!

He's tasted victory with us less than the number of fingers he has.

As he'll be a top earner, I'd sell for a couple of spring rolls if I'm honest!!!  Like Bowers I expected much much more.

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

When we signed had a peek on the jumbos sites they were all saying word for word what is being said now great attitude but very average player pity too had hopes for him, maybe just unfortunate that almost as soon as he signed players were sold and club went into freefall

Re: Chinese team want McGowan

No chance we will go 442. Mixu hasn't got players capable of it.

Absolutely no width in the team. Riski CAN play out wide but said he prefers in behind the striker. Dow still a good bit away from it and was piss poor before injury. Murray isn't a wide player.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Tell yer dug no tae worry, McGowan will be going on a slow boat.........but with Quinn leaving the Sheep 5 months after joining them to return to Ross Co, I would not rule out him coming up here to Aberdeen.  Either way I would not have a problem.

But we do have the players for a 442 diamond which is narrower and compact, a formation I have said we should have been playing since we lost the players that led to our capitulation.
