Re: January transfers

Mixu says on the Zone that he wants a winger with real pace and a big striker. With Morris out now surely to christ a centre half needs to be added as well?

Out?
Souttar
Bodul
Anier
Murray
Connolly
Szromnik
Durnan/Donaldson

Too much commotion

Bang on... all of this.

If Mixu only thinks we need two players he better think again. We need a Centre Half, winger, striker and a new left back wouldn't go amiss either. Dixon gets the shirt regardless of performance and the only cover is Dillon.

Re: January transfers

Personally I don't think the defence has been to bad and if it wasn't for our useless goalie we would be 6 points greater off

Re: January transfers

The defence is our poorest unit, by far, in my view.

Regarding new players, I reckon that we will only bring in loan signings,  which would make sense, since presently we don't know what sort of budget we'll have next season.

Deadly serious, in the last few games I feel they've been reasonably solid! However I do agree we need a ball winner in the heart of the defence! Our weakest link was defo the keeper

Re: January transfers

I kinda disagree our defence has been poor but our lack  of pace on the wings is our worst. Defence without durnan will b better. Winger target man and a defender who can play across the back line would be ideal. Pates back who has been a massive miss in this dog fight we r in. McGowan and gunning centrehalf dillon  rb Dixon lb, back four please for the love of god.

Re: January transfers

I do think our defence is rotten but don't think that has been helped by our goalkeepers inexperience, and all round ability..

Should Eiji be as good as he is on paper and be a commanding goalkeeper who tells his defence exactly where he wants them we should see an decrease in goals through this alone.

Zwick and 'Some nick' whatever their faults, are two inexperienced keepers thrown in the deep end who simply lack the confidence to tell season pros in our team exactly what they want from them when defending. Absolutely praying Eiji isna like this and will tell jokers like Gunning and Durnan to stand do what he f***ing tells them to.

We need wingers in January more than anything, desperately need to create more and keep the ball up the park.

Re: January transfers

Worth having a look at St johnstone players?

Ken they aren't usually too helpful to us but they have a few first team ers out of contract at the end of the season.... Steven anderson and the lad up front, for a start?

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: January transfers

4 players minimum required in January (and early in January not say January the fucking 26th or something) and they all have to be fit and able to play immediately...or we will finish rock bottom.

Centre Half
Left Back
Winger
Striker

Re: January transfers

Word from some fans 'in the know' is that GMS is coming back along with Anthony Stokes.

Both presumably on loan.

I have my reservations they would want to come and join our relegation fight but we shall see.

That would be handy. Especially if we could have Ciftci as well!

Re: January transfers

I can't see it but it will take those two plus 2 more of the same quality for the miracle to happen

Re: January transfers

Hope this is true. Despite the fact I have not been keen on Stokes due to the alleged baggage he carries, this is the quality we need. Him, GMS, another winger and a strong quality centre half is the absolute minimum.

Get it done Thompson and save this disaster of a season that you are massively culpable for.

Re: January transfers

What wee need is a modern day Charlie Millar.
I agree we need pace but we also need someone capable of unlocking a defence.
We have no supply to McKay, he was tackling people in our own half today just to try and get the ball.
He plays off the shoulder and we need someone to feed him.
We get to the last 25yards then everyone stops and runs out of ideas until we do something shit.
That's why we can't beat anyone when we fall behind. Once a team sits in our current players don't have the intelligence to get through.

Also, we can't play erskine, demel and Fraser in the same midfield. All three tire and none has decent pace. Demel is composed and strong, but he needs a runner in beside him. He kept creating space and looking for a pass but everyone was static.
Spittal needs to learn to work the channel instead of staying out wide as well. That was one of the passes demel kept looking for and ended up McKay was going for it and that meant our best finisher is crossing it instead of being on the end.
I would have hoped this was worked on in training.

Me too.

Some of the limited qualities we have are fucking wasted on the weaknesses they endure.

Re: January transfers

I'm just regurgitating a PM i sent to T6 (so aplos T6 for having to read it again) but if we get Stokes and GMS i would like to see us go 3-5-2 (particulary once Paton returns).

Tommy McLean played this formation and i loved watching it.When you have two pacy wide players like McLaren and Winters were it can cause the other team all sorts of problems.

I would maybe persist with the 3 at the back.Play GMS and Pongolle or Erskine on the other wing and have Demel-Paton-Rankin as the 3 central midfielders.

Have McKay and Stokes/Muirhead upfront.

This is all 'If's and But's' of course as we may well not sign these boys but if we do i would like to see us try this as IMO the formation has looked not bad recently. It's just daft errors and McKay not finishing chances you would expect him to that is killing us at the moment (think he would definitely benefit from a strike partner).

I would drop Dixon right out the team to play this.

Re: January transfers

Don't know if anyone agree but for me, I felt we were so comfortable again in defence they put us under no pressure what so ever and 1 mistake costs us again, if they don't score before half time they don't win, we were absolutely battering them again which we seem to be doing most weeks but we just aren't clinical enough and deserve to be getting beat week in week out if we can't kill teams off! For me in January I would like us to sign a centre half, left back (urgently), ernemenko type of player, gms type of player and a Michael higdon type of player!

Re: January transfers

We need someone up front with Mckay.  He can't do everything himself.
