Favourite Italian team?

Used to love watching Serie A on Channel 4 back in the day.

James Richardson (great presenter) sitting having a cappacino in a different Italian City/town each week and giving you a bit of a background on the city/fans/club.Was great Sunday viewing. There were some truly great sides and matches back then too.

Did anyone have a favourite Italian side back then or since?

I loved the Parma team that had in the early-mid 90's players like Hernan Crespo,Tina Asprilla,Juan Sebastien Veron,Gigi Buffon,Lillian Thuram,Gianfranco Zola, and Fabio Cannavaro (amongst others) in their arsenal.

Sadly they went into liquidation this year and a pheonix club were formed and now play in Serie D as a newly-formed club S.S.D Parma Calcio 1913..

Fave Italian side?

Re: Favourite Italian team?

Used to love to too TEK, still watch it when I can on a Sunday night.

The football show on BT hosted by Richardson is excellent, rounds up the the games and stories from France, Germany and Italy each week with native reporters.

As for teams, always liked Fiorentina, Batistuta was my favourite player when I was younger and the purple Viola strip with the big 7up sponsor was a winner for me.

Doing well this year too, off to Florence in the summer so will hopefully see the stadium.

Re: Favourite Italian team?

Was a big Fiorentina admirer too Andy.

Batistuta and that purple 7UP strip are indeed iconic 90's fitba images.

Mind some game where their supporters ran on and started ripping the strips off the players.. was mental.

Yeah mate.

C4 think it started 2 in the afternoon iirc.

Used to always think it said 'GOAAAAAAL LAZIO' at the start (I was wrong).

Re: Favourite Italian team?

After Scotland playing in their fantastic stadium in Italia 90, I always had a soft spot for Sampdoria.  I've always longed for Dundee United to have the odd season when they do something radical kit wise, whilst retaining tangerine as the main colour and the Samp kit would be my choice.  I reckon if done with a collar like last seasons black kit, they would be a record breaker.

Loved watching Gazetta and James Richardson for the above reasons.  I even have the theme tune for Gazetta as a CD Single!!!

Re: Favourite Italian team?

Alway's have a soft spot for underdogs, so my favourite Italian team is Palermo.

Also been wearing pink strips for over 100 years, before even Dundee United(Hibernian) was formed.

Re: Favourite Italian team?

For anybody that's interested I will be auctioning a signed Inter Milan top from the 2005-2006 season at some point.

Re: Favourite Italian team?

Enjoyed watching Gazetta back in the day and always remember James Richardson sitting in a cafe going through the papers in a cafe.....done the same myself (to the limits of my piss poor Italian) and always thought it was great that they had papers dedicated to fitba (the reports even go down to the amateurs).

I've developed a soft spot for Hellas Verona after reading Tim Parks book on them (A Year With Verona - recommend it)......not looking good this year with zero wins (and we thought we were having a miserable season).

Hoping to take in a Napoli game next year (v Frosinone) if it's not rescheduled for TV.

Dundee had a similar kit when they were with asics.

My Italian team is juventus. Seen them a few times in turin and at old Trafford and ibrox.

Few of us  going to Milan Derby at end of January. Something different.

Aye mate, I mind of that ane.  The Dee's have been more adventurous than us on the kit front over the years.

I was at a Manure Juventus Champions League game in the mid 1990s.  Del Piero scored in about 10 seconds at the shop end of Old Trafford.  I've never to this day heard a stadium go from bedlam to pin drop that quick after a kick off.  I think Zidane scored in the last min with a free kick.  My tee total mate (now sadly passed) drove us North Manchester to Aberdeen in about 4 hours in the days before speed cameras.  Luckily the rest of us were pissed and fast asleep, but none of us could believe what he had done!!!

Presume you've a contact or source for yer Milan Derby tickets.  You used to have to buy them from Banks as I recall???  Saw Scotland lose 2 zip about a decade ago in the San Siro.  Probably the most drunk I have been at a futba game as they had a Scottish fanzone at the race track over from the Stadium.  I also mind while we were all pissed in a bar in the shadow of the stadium the Italian support drank espressos!!!

Was at that game at old Trafford.  Met a few of the juventus ultras that I knew in Manchester who'd got me a ticket.  I went down on train.
The whole ultra thing over there is different class.  Loads of different factions.  At the time Juve had drughi bianconero and black and white fighters. Now I'm positive it's just the drughi.
Couple of my mates are Milan season ticket holders. Get them thru them.

Need to get my arse in  gear and get over to juves new ground.

Incidentally one of the Juve ultras that I know changed his allegiance to Sampdoria due to the match fixing with Juve lol

Re: Favourite Italian team?

I loved Sampdoria when Vialli and Mancini played for them.  They won the league the first year I had cable TV in 1990/91, it was shown on the sports channel on BSB and I loved watching that team.  Really cool strip too.

Re: Favourite Italian team?

I adopted US Lecce Spa in 1985 aged 16 when I went for a pint with my wee cuz in Malta where there was no age limit to drink then.

We found a crakin wee bar with play offs on the telly. We decided to cheer on Lecce as the wee team, the underdog.

They played with passion and won. That's how I ended up with a strange wee Italian team.

After being promoted to Seria A they finished bottom and were relegated after only one season, but defeated Roma 3–2 away in the penultimate game to deal a fatal blow to Roma's title hopes.
So at least wee latched on to a wee team far away that were promoted and relegated quick but hurt the team in that wee stint who cheated us out of playing Liverpool in the European Cup Final!

And BTW the name is pronounced LETCHY!

As in .....
