Forget about taking points from Celtic.

We just need to get out a team who can take points off of the County's,Hamiltons and ICT's of the league until we can get new players in the door.

We musn't become too detached.

He has a big big job to build these players up this week to face County.

We have to go with these players just now, that's the situation.

He has to get behind them and so do the support Eddy.

We've went there with really good sides and got a hiding -so today was just making sure we never got 6 like the BNB's got.

I'm behind Mixu 100% but i'm not wasting hard earned on a fanciful trip through to sit behind a pillar and watching us getting the football equivalent of S&M , that was a stick-on today after they got a FUCKING PASTING FROM MOLDE.

Oh, what came of the things we once believed?

One of the commentators stated Utd were lucky and that Celtic could have scored 15! First time in all my years have I ever heard anything like that! Good job we weren't playing Arbroath in a Scottish Cup tie. Shotts Bon Accord would have their ignomonious hiding at the hands of the Red Lichties well and truly erased!

Only thing i'd say is i'm not sure giving some of these players a rocket and tearing into them will actually work. The likes of Souttar,Durnan,Khul,Fraser,Dow,Spittal,Connolly etc etc are all quiet lads and i think they might just retreat further into their shells if the Manager is ripping them apart.

At the moment Mixu needs these players to believe in themselves so maybe a better tactic would to try and make them feel 10 foot tall rather than 10 inches small.

Maurice Malpas must read TT

Former Dundee United defender Maurice Malpas has expressed surprise that new manager Mixu Paatelainen has criticised so strongly the squad he inherited.

The Finn spoke out after a 5-0 defeat by Premiership leaders Celtic left United five points adrift at the foot.He described their performance as "absolute rubbish" and a standard that could not be tolerated.

"I think one or two of the kids, or more than that, will go into their shells," said Malpas in response."I've got to admit I was quite surprised when Mixu criticised everybody."Because they've been kept in a bubble. They have been kept away from criticism and this will be the first time they've really had criticism in their short careers."

Jackie McNamara was sacked with his side sitting second bottom of the table and they slipped to bottom before Paatelainen was appointed as his replacement.United have the third biggest playing budget in the top-flight, but Malpas said: "It definitely isn't a third-best squad."I think if you look at the performances this season and towards the end of last season, you can understand why they are where they are"

"The few times I've watched them this season, they've done nothing at all when the opposition has got the ball - nothing."They've hardly had a tackle and they've allowed the opposition to dominate and virtually to do what they want."

Former Finland coach Paatelainen, who has suffered two defeats in charge, also suggested on Sunday that, contrary to suggestions that his young squad was full of players with good technical ability, their skill levels were merely "okay".

Malpas, who managed Motherwell and Swindon Town, told BBC Scotland: "They need to forget about the silky soccer. It's not about silky soccer, it's not about pretty patterns of play. It's about digging results out."

"They've got a young back four, a young goalkeeper - they're just too young for me. There's no experience, there's nobody leading them."Young kids, when they are going great, they are fantastic."But, at this moment, those young players, they've got no confidence, they've no performance and the teams struggle."

"Much has been made of the sale of Scotland midfielders Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven to Celtic in January and they were followed to the Scottish champions by striker Nadir Ciftci this summer."You've lost your two best players, but you've lost two of your so-called leaders," added Malpas."The younger ones would have looked up to them."I know Stuart Armstrong's a young man, but he's a very good player and, when Dundee United were playing well, he was playing well."

"Mackay-Steven was slightly different. He was a match winner."But I think it knocked a lot of the stuffing out of some of the younger ones."I am sure the older ones would have thought they could handle it."But, when you see the results, it proves that they couldn't handle it."

Re: mixu in zone

All Malpas said is just common sense. The players may well react in a negative fashion, but that's the gamble Mixu has had to make imo. Is he just meant to go the soft as shite route? I liked his post match reaction, it shows he cares. More than could be said for half the team.

If the players dinna like the public criticism, they can either get their collective arses in gear and show a bit of fight, or they can just fuck off.

Re: mixu in zone

That's only a bit of what Mo said.

He also went on to say that it might work in their favour if Mixu went in Monday morning explaining that it was an unacceptable performance and that's why he had to say it publicly but he believed that they were all in it together and would get out of the trouble together.

Re: mixu in zone

I dont get this to be honest, some posters have been crowing about getting a manager who wont take no shit, then questioning Mixu when he demonstrates just that.

Like I said before, damned if you do and damned if you dont.

What was Mixu supposed to say after the Celtic game? He was getting pelters for his post match from some quarters as well for saying we done 'ok' in parts, now he is getting pelters for saying we were shite on Sunday.

Who is to say he isnt going round the squad personally and chatting to each player and doing the old arm round the shoulder, or rocket up the backside, whatever Mixu feels works best for the guy. I agree not everyone responds well to critisism and I am sure Mixu will identify them and deal with them in the approriate manner to get the best out of them.

Re: mixu in zone

He was right to slate the whole team publically (better than picking on individuals) but if Mixu has what it takes to be a manager, he will know behind the scenes which players to give a bollocking too and which ones to put his arm round.

Re: mixu in zone

For this to be in context, you'd have to listen to LAST NIGHTS SportSound on BBC Scotland on the iPlayer.  I'm out n about so cannot get a link just now.  Can someone assist please?

Mo was on with Graham Spiers, Willie Miller and Kenny McIntyre.

The first half hour anyway was ALL about the pros and cons of whether it was appropriate or not and was a good listen.  Me???  I'm happy the riot act has been read, as IMO we ain't getting out of this unless we start biting and fighting and scratching and snarling!  Feeling sorry won't cut it!!!

Re: mixu in zone

Exactly application is needed urgently, totally agree with the lack of pressing and tackling it's been obvious for months.

Time to stand up and be counted.....

Which is exactly why I said it was great to hear such passion and honesty in his interview. Personally I loved his interview.

But will it get the required response out of quiet young boys?

Time will tell.

Re: mixu in zone

i liked his interview on the zone after the match

he was unhappy same as the fans and let it be known.

It perked me up a bit watching and listening to what he had to say.
