Atmosphere at Tannadice v Ross Coonty and in general.

Atmosphere at Tannadice has been generally pish for years now, but things did seem to be getting better last season after they closed the shed, but before they opened the JK.

The situation we have now however is the worst it has ever been. We have two seperate sections in the ET lower. We have a section in the GF lower. We have a secion in the JK. And today we had a section in the ET upper hospo seats. The problem with all that is that these sections generally consist of around 20 boys, and they all tend to sing over one another and muffling each other out.

I also think that having some prick play pop tunes over the tannoy after every goal doesn't help. After Erskines winner today, U could feel the anticipation amongst  fans for a raucus rendition of some classic to be belted out from all the home support stands.....Instead, we got some fucking pop song, which some of the 'vocal' sections attempted to muffle along to, but which generally got in the way of an actual fucking fitba song being belted by jubilant fans, delighted with thier team at having grabbed a winner in the last 5 minutes. By the time the tannoy prick turned his pop song off....the moment was lost.

Atmosphere at Tannadice is in dire need of repair.

Shite peformance today as well and though we were 'better' team, they had three sitter opportunites with unmarked man at back left post. Fortuntely for us, they could only convert one, but big fucking questions must surely be getting asked of our defence.

Re: Atmosphere at Tannadice v Ross Coonty and in general.

Would need to see the highlights again but my thought after they missed the 3rd sitter at the back post was "why the fuck is Townsend not tucking in and challenging???" He was good defensively in the first two games but poor going forward, today seemed to be the opposite way round.

Re the atmosphere, I agree that splitting the support up into 3 stands instead of almost filling the two is not working. I suspect this will not change any time soon since this, along with  removing the cash gates from the GF is more about incomptent stewards who are unable to handle and organise full stands than anything else. There was tons of empty seats in the GF yesterday. Too many folk in our support sitting back and waiting for things to happen instead of getting behind the team. Even standing up and shouting some encouragement seems to result in people around you looking at you as if you are some sort of half-wit.

Too much commotion

I tend to freak oot first, and ask questions later. What I seen on those occassions was some big looping cross landing at some unmarked Ross Coonty players feet/head and all I could think was "WTF is he daen there all alone!?"

I dunno if having fans scattered across 3 stands is such a bad idea. Having decided to be a pay at the gate fan this year other than fork out on a season ticket and effectively pay my mate into 5-6 games per season, I quite like the option of turning up late and being able to opt for a choice touchline seat in the Jerry Kerr, other than scramble around trying to find some empty seats in the bottom corner of the GF lower, by the corner flag. Over 7K at the game yesterday. That is a huge crowd for us over what we might have epxected at a Ross Coonty home game last year. 1.5K - 2K more infact. Better to make use of the space we have other than can them all in like sardines. Problem with the atmosphere is when the vocal fans can't decide on congregating in the one area. It would be different if there were like 500 vocal supporters in one stand, 1000 in the next etc. But at Tannadice, you can take a 0 off those figures and still probably be exaggerating.

I will admit that I am a recent convert to choosing to watch the fitba from the touchline other than from behind the goal where the vocal supporters congregate (in theory), but am still definitely up for screaming out a classic United tune as and when the occasion arises. I just read on the footy mad forum, one guy stating that after Erskine's goal, he felt like singing his heid off disregardless of whether anyone was going to join in or not. I felt the exact same. Indeed, probably thousands felt the exact same. But what did we get after the goal? Wanker tannoy-boy playing some pop tune. By the time it went off, moment was over, give for a few attempts of the various 5 groups of vocal fans singing over and into each other.

I am reading on other forums that there is attempts to start a 'singing' section in north east corner of ET lower. In an age of facebook, this shouldn't be hard to organise. Fans of other clubs don't seem to have any difficulty in allocating themselves a 'ultra's section'.

Also ths trend of pop songs after goals being blasted over the tannoy needs to stop. At best, it channels the outburst of fan atmosphere into some kind of sterilised karaoke session and at worst (as was the case yesterday) it totally kills the potential for a natural outburst of atmosphere.

The atmosphere has been poor for a number of seasons now.

I don't know what can be done tbh.

Other than handing oot free ecstacy at the turnstyles

Away games are always better for atmosphere unless its the derby.
