it really is awful. you feel like you're playing Russian roulette when you're dropping your kid off to school. Its alright saying something has to be done but what exactly would you suggest? Ive got a few ideas but likely fly in opposite direction to everybody elses.

Ban the sale enmasse of fire arms.
Pretty simple.
Won't happen though. Trump has already spun it round and said the issue in Florida is to do with 'chid immigration' as the shooters surname is 'Cruz'. Incredible.
America will burn before they take away their 'right' to bear arms under the Second Amendment. A law passed nearly 300 fucking years ago.

I haven't seen him come out and say that? and i'm far from an apologist where he is concerned.
So what do you do with all the guns in circulation?
I'm not trying to play devils advocate or be a twat on this. I just dont think altering the second amendment would accomplish anything. A mentally unstable person, looking to inflict harm will invariably target these "gun free zones". 5, 10, 15 minutes before they meet any resistance.

He was in the same thread of tweets regarding the Florida shootings laying into the Democrats for their stance on DACA. And saying the Republicans have to unite to get new tougher laws passed on the issue.
The guns in circulation? You firstly call for an armistace and then invite people to hand in their fire-arms into police stations 'no questions asked'. Thereafter anyone caught in possession of a fire-arm on their person or selling one on the black market will be dealt with in the strictest terms possible and in conjuction with new legislation.
Lastly a mentally unstable person will be able to cause much less harm if they can't get a hold of a fire-arm for love nor money. That's just common sense.
Is Trump really concerned with keeping America safe? Or is yet more empty rhetoric?
I know what one my monies on.

Don't see why not. We did it. Firearms Act 1997.

As did Australia in 1996.

The obsession with guns in the US is truly bizarre. Why would anybody want to own a gun.

It's a knock on effect. Plenty bad folk have guns over here... and elsewhere. People want to be able to protect themselves/families. I dont own a gun but have considered it. If someone came into my house with bad intentions id have no way of protecting my family. Its a bit of a naked feeling to be honest.

Yeah but we are talking 300 million plus people over here. The gangs, criminals, whoever arent away to be handing their weapons in. People who are looking to mass murder other people with a gun would very much like the government to take away guns from law abiding citizens. One big gun free zone. Its awful to contemplate but no secret why this keeps happening in schools.

btw agree on mentally ill not having guns, just common sense. Have to do something. Id just go opposite direction. Id feel much safer with armed presence in schools and scrapping this gun free zone stuff

Take a look outside the US, NOWHERE comes remotely close to the level of mass shootings there is in the US.
Is that because the US let everyone have guns?
Or are there just much more mentally ill people in the US?
It has to be 1 of the 2, I’m pretty sure it’s the guns. So the right to arms must be taken away.
It won’t stop immediately, of course it won’t, but it would massively cut down the risk of it happening and through time it would become at worst extremely rare.

It's one thing owning a hand gun but why is it Joe Public over there has such easy access to Assault Rifles? Civilians don't need weapons that powerful.

I think you're right to be fair. Just know that AR 15 rifle is not technically auto or semi-automatic. Its a technicality but my understanding is you need to pull trigger multiple times to fire multiple shots versus just holding trigger down for constant fire. What it does allow for (I believe) is rapid trigger fire and rapid reload, so dangerous as fuck.
A gun owner might say "who are you to tell me what I need and dont need to feel like I can protect my family...". I just dont really buy that. Maybe if you're in a particular circumstance but I do believe it should be much harder to buy assault rifles over hand guns & shot guns.

Look, the problem is, incidents like this happen and you get the instantaneous political responses on both sides and folk dig the fuck in. It's frustrating. I think they do need to reflect on what the fuck to do here but the answer isnt to take away all the guns... particularly right away. You're not going to tell a law abiding citizen in the inner cities of Chicago to turn in their gun they might be using for possible self defense, nor should you. Gangs/Criminals are Gangs/Criminals, they dont abide by laws and would sure as fuck not be turning their fire-arms in.
I honestly think you need to start from a position of having an armed presence in schools for 10 years, do away with designating and advertising "gun free zones" then work from there. phase out any assault type weapons and/or make it virtually impossible to own those arms. Then have the conversation about self defense weapons after that ten year period.
Thats both sides giving a little to start with. Problem is both sides dig in, make the same arguments theyve been making for last 20 years, get in their right wing/left wing tribes and fuck all gets done. Im not always an advocate for "getting things done" but I can see we have to do something, even as a conservative.
The system failed these kids, i'd even say the system failed this fucking shooter too. Just a shame all around.

There's more chance of the Yanks banning schools before they'll ban guns.

Wants to give teachers guns.

Trump is a buffoon.
He can’t be blamed for the gun situation in the US tho, there are millions, probably a majority, who would rather kids died in the odd school shooting than they couldn’t own a gun. They are all fucken idiots and Trump couldn’t change it even if he wanted to.
