Many thanks Seibz.
The 11th match of Round 1 saw the top 2 tracks of a low-scoring game both finish on the same votes. As 'Connection' by ELASTICA got to 3 votes first it will be it that progresses through to the 2nd Round as the seeded entrant.Joining it in the 2nd Round (albeit unseeded) will be 'Sunflower' by PAUL WELLER after it finished runner-up.Eliminated from the tournament are 'North Country Boy' by The Charlatans and (perhaps surprisingly) fellow Mancunians Oasis with their top 2 UK hit 'Wonderwall'.

Ooft, now we're talking. Really good Manics track. This is Music is absolutely superb. Hey Dude a bit lightweight in this company but still a cracking track and as for Richard III; that intro Jesus Christ.
Im stuck. Torn between the Verve and Supergrass.

Fucking cracking tune!
I played the bass guitar in a band once (with a bunch of St Mirren fans!), didn't play anything big though, and was a competent player but not really great. We done a mixture of covers and original songs, and this was my favourite cover song that we played.
Also played in another band in high school even more moons ago, I played the drums (was very fast, but not very technical), we had a few minor gigs but nothing special, and Tek actually posted another of my favourite cover songs we used to play the other night, Tourette's by Nirvana. Another cracking tune, and pretty simple to play when you break it down.
I haven't played the drums in over 18 years now, and haven't slapped my bass since my youngest was born. The only thing I'm slapping now is my salami!

The Manics - Kevin Carter
The story behind that song is absolutely heartbreaking.

Yep, didn't the boy choose to photograph someone dying rather than help them? He then won awards for the photos but lost the plot with guilt? Or am I talking pish?

Couple of good documentaries about him "the death of Kevin Carter" and "the bang bang club", might still be kicking about YouTube.

This is Music. I hate you TEK. Can't believe I voted against that Supergrass track, and Kevin Carter tbh. This comp is evil.

His most famous picture was construed as such, the one with the fragile hungry baby with a vulture waiting in the background. But apparently the babies parents where at a food truck and laid the baby down only for a few minutes, he crept up slowly to take the picture then scared the vulture away.
He did commit suicide and left a note behind to say he couldn't live with all the horrors he had seen and photographed, so it's not too far off what you said at the end.

Pretty much mate (Siebz gave a spot-on description above).
He actually did chase the Vulture away seconds later but was castigated in some quarters at the time for taking the picture in the first place.
My view? = I think it's one of the most important pictures ever taken and i genuinely feel very sorry for the guy that he ended up taking his own life over it all.

Was that the Jaffa Cake, by chance?

Was that the Napier Uni one? Only went there a couple of times.
It was the Moray House Uni one that I went to regularly. Cannae mind the name of it though. Once a month I think. 4 quid to get in. Cheap drink. It was right at bottom of the High Street. Next to Holyrood Tav

Jaffa Cake was in between the Castle multi story car park and the Grass Market, went there a few times back in the day. As far as I know it was the only dedicated indie club, as opposed to an indie club night, that I can remember in the late 90s.

Just text a mate. Moray House indie night was called FBI. Once a month. Went to the Jaffa maybe once or twice but I reckon I'm probably a couple of years older than you. Kinda stopped going to Indie clubs 96 and was acting like a tit in various types of dance clubs. Live in Edinburgh 94-98

I'm 35 so was going to the Jaffa Cake around 1998/1999, been living in Edinburgh on and off since 2001!
