Many thanks Hunted.
The 7th match of Round 1 saw a comfortable victory registered for 'Beautiful One's' by SUEDE which will now progress through to the 2nd Round as a seed.Joining it in the 2nd Round (albeit unseeded) will be 'Walkaway' by Liverpool rockers CAST which was sitting in the runner-up spot at full-time.Eliminated from the 'Britpop Cup' is the unlucky 'Mansize Rooster' the debut single by Supergrass and also 'Charmless Man' the top ten hit from 1996 for Blur. The latter received no votes.

Toughest round yet by far.Actually quite like all 4 songs.
Not a big Blur fan but 'End of a Century' is a decent track.
Charlatans song is decent too and really like The Furries song (and video) and the whole Radiator album is magic.
Gonna vote for The Verve 'History' though.I know Ashcroft massively plagiarises William Blake's words in it but that in itself is not a bad thing. Those strings at the start....Wow!!
Little known fact = the 'clapping' overdub provided in the background of the song is provided by the one and only....Liam Gallagher.

Yeah, this is a good round.
Great memories of The Verve around this time. Saw them at my first experience of Glastonbury in 95. Just remember the baking heat and Nick McCabe's guitar amp blowing midway through the set. They just continued with bass and drums. Fucking brilliant. Ashcroft was the coolest bastard on the planet that day.
Still though, can't see past SFA. Never quite fitted into the whole Britpop phenomenon but never quite shook off the tag of being a Britpop band either. Probably suffered commercially as a result. Play It Cool is definitely one of their more radio-friendly tunes though.

Not a huge Verve fan by any means, but History is a fucking majestic song, so it gets my vote.

The album is it is on is better than the one that followed that sold millions IMO. Pretty sure he supported Oasis when I saw them in Ingliston in the mid 90s. Although I was pished having spent the OCS warm up in the bar

And the album before that is even better imho. A Northern Soul is a really good album but suffers because the production sucks the life out of it. Lifes An Ocean live sounds miles better than on record.

All good tunes but Can't get out of bed is my personal favourite in this group.
